DEITY Deity

Sometimes the technical death metal genre gets criticized for only producing bands being technical for the sake of technicallity, and in some cases the critics are right to a certain degree. Fortunately this is not the case with Canadian band Deity. On their self-titled debut album they have managed to keep focus on songwriting, good riffs and song structures as the main objective, while individual brilliant technical skills are used to make the already excellent song material even more interesting. Deity consists of guitarists Danny Alessandro and John Massey who also share all vocals between them, while drumming and bass duties has been handed to session musicans Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy) and Florian Ravet. Both growling and screaming vocal styles are being used and the combination actually work very well in this case, and even though Deity mainly is a death metal band you can clerarly hear elements of black metal in their style as well. The album consist of eight tracks including an intro, with the longest track clocking in on around 13 minutes an several others around 8 minutes so theres plenty here to consume. The combination of a very strong and well structured song material, a rock solid production and outstanding musicianship makes this album one of the most interesting debuts of 2017. Highly recommended.
