METAL CHURCH Dead To Rights
HotMetal Church stands firmly among the legends of American heavy metal, with a history stretching back to 1980. Their career has seen its share of highs and lows, lineup changes, hiatuses, and reinventions, but throughout it all, they’ve produced several landmark albums, including their self‑titled debut, The Dark, and Blessing in Disguise. Now they return with Dead to Rights, their fourteenth full‑length release, and one that introduces three significant new members.
The revamped rhythm section features two seasoned veterans: bassist David Ellefson (ex‑Megadeth, among many others) and drummer Ken Mary (Fifth Angel, Flotsam and Jetsam, Alice Cooper). New vocalist Brian Allen steps in as well, joining founding guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof and longtime six‑string partner Rick Van Zandt to form a formidable lineup.
Dead to Rights sounds unmistakably like Metal Church, yet it carries a surprisingly fresh and energized edge. The band delivers their trademark blend of US heavy metal and power metal, sharpened with thrash elements, hard‑hitting riffs, blistering rhythm work, and Allen’s high‑pitched, forceful vocal attack. The production is powerful and modern, giving the material the punch and clarity it deserves.
Most importantly, the songwriting is consistently strong from start to finish. For fans of traditional American metal, this album is a safe, and highly satisfying, bet.
