TYKETTO Closer To The Sun
HotWith their 1991 debut Don’t Come Easy, American hard rockers Tyketto delivered one of the genre’s true melodic masterpieces, a record that should have dominated the era, yet somehow slipped through the cracks and remains a criminally underrated gem. In the years since, the band has weathered numerous lineup shifts and long stretches of silence, but still managed to release four additional studio albums between 1994 and 2016.
Now Tyketto return with their sixth full‑length, Closer to the Sun, with frontman Danny Vaughn standing as the sole remaining founding member. The album offers 11 tracks of unmistakably Tyketto-flavored melodic hard rock, carried largely by Vaughn’s unmistakable, charismatic voice. The songs brim with catchy guitar riffs, tasteful lead breaks, warm acoustic passages, and a subtle layer of keyboards that lifts the whole package without crowding it.
And then, of course, there’s Vaughn himself—still delivering soaring hooks and smooth vocal lines that bring the material to life. Closer to the Sun doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but that’s not its mission. Instead, it embraces the band’s strengths and delivers a dose of pure, feel‑good melodic hard rock crafted with confidence and heart.
To these ears, this is Tyketto’s strongest outing since their iconic debut—and a must-hear for anyone who still believes melody and muscle make the perfect hard rock combination.
