1991 was the year when the World Wide Web was made available to the public, the Gulf War unfolded and we saw the dissolution of the Soviet union. On cinemas around the world we could see movies like Silence Of The Lambs, Terminator 2, JFK, Cape Fear, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Thelma & Louise and Point Break among others. On the technology side Apple introduced the Apple PowerBook, the 386 and later on the 486 microprocessors saw the light of day and the very first GSM call was made.
But 1991 also gave us som memorable metal albums, and these were among the very best;
- SAVATAGE Streets - A Rock Opera
- DEATH - Human
- FATES WARNING Paralells
- SUFFOCATION Effigy Of The Forgotten
- METALLICA Metallica (The Black Album)
- SKID ROW Slave To The Grind
- DISMEMBER Like An Everflowing Stream
- TYKETTO Don´t Come Easy
- ATHEIST Unquestionable Precence
- GREAT WHITE Hooked
SAVATAGE The Streets - A Rock Opera. To my ears one of the best albums ever recorded!
DEATH Human. A milestone in death metal history, but for me peronally it ends second in the Death discography, behind the masterpiece Symbolic.
FATES WARNING Paralells. Probably their most commercially accessible relase, but also one of their absolute best.
SUFFOCATION Effigy Of The Forgotten. Another death metal milestone, but once again not my favorite release by this amazing band.
METALLICA Metallica. The album that gave Metallica commerical success and made them super-stars, but for me it was also a huge step away from everything I loved about Metallica and I more or less lost my interest in the band after this release. Their first four albums are still Metal classics that I´ve playde frequently to this date.
SKID ROW Slave To The Grind. One of the the absolute best albums that came out of the "hair metal era", criminally underrated.
DISMEMBER Like An Everflowing Stream. Another death metal classic from one of the pioneers of the renovned Swedish death metal sound.
TYKETTO Don´t Come Easy. An amazing hard rock/hair metal album that never received the recognition it deserved. A true hidden gem if you´re into catcy melodic hard rock.
ATHEIST Unquestionable Presence. Terrorizer Magazine described this album as "The very pinnacle of scorching yet brain-twisting techical metal". Still to this date it is one of my favorite technical death metal albums.
GREAT WHITE Call It Rock And Roll. Staight forward, no bullshit American hard rock with catchy riffs, hooks and memorable songs.
