CRAFTING THE CONSPIRACY The Cosmic Key, pt. 1
HotCrafting The Conspiracy is a new acquaintance to me, heading from Odessa, Texas and they promote themselves as a melodic death metal band. I would probably rather file them as deathcore, but of course with elements of both melodic- and more brutal death metal. ‘The Cosmic Key, pt. 1’ is a six track EP with a total runtime of just above 26 minutes. Maybe I’m old fashioned but I have have never been a fan of the EP format itself thinking why not wait recording until you have enough material for a full length album, but on the other hand I can understand a bands argument for going for an EP since it demands a lower budget and allows the band to focus on the quality of a lower number of tracks. Enough said, let’s talk about what important; The music. The majority of the material is up-tempo and actually quite brutal, with blistering drums, sub drops and hard riffing but yet melodic guitars with aggressive, forward leaning vocals on top of it all. The production is very powerful and tight but yet clear enough to allow details to shine through, and all six tracks are premium quality. The only thing I don’t quite get here is the one minute of total silence within the track ‘Within the Labyrinth’, but I guess the guys did put it there for a reason. ‘The Cosmic Key, pt. 1’ can easily be recommended to fans of deathcore as well as fans of death metal in general and I’m already looking forward to pt. 2 which I hope will come as a full length album.
