DENNER/SHERMAN Satan's Tomb
HotNew material from the amazing Mercyful Fate guitar duo Denner/Shermann has been greatly anticipated ever since I first heard rumors of this project a while ago. Now the time is finally here, and even though it comes in the shape of a four track EP rather than a full album it's been worth the wait. Among all tremendous guitar duos out there Michael Denner and Hank Shermann definitely sorts among my all time favorites, and on 'Satan's Tomb' they once again prove that they are still able to beat the shit out ouf most of their competitors. For this project they have brought in Snowy Shaw (King Diamond, Therion, Sabaton) on drums, Piet Slick (Cage, Death Dealer) on vocals and Marc Grabowski (Demonica) on bass which all together turns out to be a really powerful force. The music is excactly what you would expect from Denner/Sherman, traditional heavy metal with an old schoold feel and of course obvious hints to Mercyful Fate. Their signature, dark magic shred and harmony guitar work is very present in the sound and together with a blistering rhythm section they create a perfect framework for Piet Slick's charismatic and theatrical vocals. The title track on this EP is a true heavy metal master piece that realy hits the listener like an evil rolling thunder. The remaining three songs follows closely, and even thogh none of them quite reach the standards of the title track they are all brilliant quality material. I was close to reward this album with full score, but in the end I decided to hold back just a little in the wait for the full length album that will see the light of day somtimes during 2016. I can't wait to hear it.
