FATES WARNING Darkness In A Different Light

After nine years of absence from the limelight Fates Warning are finally back with a brand new studio album. I first discovered Fates Warning when they released ´Awaken the guardian´ back in 1986 and I still enjoy their first seven albums, but haven´t been too convinced by what they have delivered after ´Inside Out´. ´Darkness In A Different Light´ on the other hand sees the band back on track again and it´s definitely their best effort since the mid nineties. The guys seems to have found back to the winning formula of mixing progressive metal with power metal in intricate but yet catchy songs with strong melody lines. Ray Adler sings great as always while Jim Matheos and Frank Aresti delivers some real good guitar work over Joey Vera and Bobby Jarzombek´s intricate and tight rhythms. There´s actually no point in trying to pick favorite tracks since the consistent quality of the whole song material is of such high standards. ´Darkness in a different light´ is, as I´ve already said, the best Fates Warning album in nearly two decades. Welcome back.
