FOSSILIZATION Advent Of Wounds

Advent of Wounds marks the second fulllength release from Brazilian duo Fossilization, once again issued through Everlasting Spew Records. Across its concise 36minute runtime, the album unleashes a barrage of dark, oppressive fury delivered with unwavering confidence and intent.

Fossilization continue to refine their signature sound, a toxic, churning blend of oldschool death metal and suffocating doom, accented by a subtle blackened edge. The production strikes a strong balance: powerful and detailed enough for the intricacies to surface, yet grimy and raw enough to preserve the cavernous atmosphere their songwriting demands. Personally, I would have preferred the deep guttural vocals pushed slightly further to the front of the mix, though this ultimately comes down to individual preference.

One of the album’s strongest aspects is its pacing. The interplay between frantic, uptempo death metal assaults and slower, doomladen passages feels carefully measured, giving the music room to breathe while preventing monotony from ever creeping in. The result is a record that remains compelling from start to finish.

If your taste leans toward death metal that’s filthy, crushing, and steeped in doom, Advent of Wounds should be high on your radar.
