British heavy metal veterans Saxon has been around for nearly four decades, and are still going strong. As an essential part of the NWOBHM movement Saxon reached the peak of their carrer in early/mid eighties, but through hard work, dedication and belief they are still a force to count on even in 2013. As a matter of fact their new album entitled 'Sacrifice' stands out as one of their best, if not THE best, album since the golden decade of heavy metal. Compared to the past couple of albums 'Sacrifice' sees Saxon moving in a heavier direction, but still within the frame of the unmistakable sound that Saxon has always been known for. Biff Byford, at the age of 62, sings better than ever on this album, he is definitely one of the most charismatic singers in the heavy metal scene and deserves to be mentioned alongside Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford. Another thing that impresses me about this album is the energic and powerful guitarwork delivered by Paul Quinn and Doug Scarratt, how these guys still manage to come up with new powerful and interesting guitar riffs afer all these years is actually beyond belief. The band sounds tighter than ever in the powerful production that surrounds the album, and all the songs are of high quality. So watch out folks, another wave of British heavy metal is approaching.
