Sweden’s AGRIMONIA will release their fifth full-length, "Of the Shadows", on December 11, 2026 through De:Nihil Records, marking a major new chapter more than eight years after the acclaimed "Awaken".
Formed in Gothenburg in 2005, the band have spent two decades refining a distinctive language born from sludge and crust, gradually opening toward post-metal, atmospheric textures and hints of death and black metal. Their new album gathers these strands into an exceptionally cohesive whole, shaped by a prevailing atmosphere of melancholy and bitterness, with occasional folk-inflected details emerging from its darker contours.
Long-form compositions unfold patiently, allowing moments of beauty to coexist with sharper, more abrasive passages. Warm, organic production gives every layer room to breathe, while carefully developed arrangements bring greater depth and occasional progressive turns to the writing. The ambition lies in the detail: "Of the Shadows" rewards repeated listens with subtle shifts, secondary melodies and ideas that gradually reveal themselves beneath the surface.
Across their previous releases, AGRIMONIA have progressively expanded the vocabulary established on their early records, moving from the raw foundations of sludge and crust toward a broader, more atmospheric form of heavy music.
Their work has appeared through labels including Southern Lord and Profane Existence, while members have also contributed to MARTYRDÖD, MIASMAL, AT THE GATES, CONTORTURE and SWORDWIELDER.
Now "Of the Shadows" picks up the thread left by "Awaken" and turns it toward the present, offering a soundtrack for an increasingly uncertain time while occasionally lifting its gaze toward the skies. Rich in contrasts, carefully considered arrangements and melodies that linger long after the music has stopped, the album brings together the different stages of AGRIMONIA's evolution in a remarkably coherent form.

Agrimonia is a Swedish sludge, post-metal and crust metal band formed in Gothenburg in 2005. Known for their expansive compositions, crushing heaviness and atmospheric soundscapes, the band combines the raw aggression of crust punk with elements of doom metal, death metal, black metal and post-rock.
The band's musical identity is characterized by lengthy, emotionally charged compositions that alternate between devastating riffs, haunting melodies, atmospheric passages and explosive bursts of aggression. Christina Blom's harsh and distinctive vocal delivery adds another layer of intensity to Agrimonia's dark and powerful sound.
Agrimonia emerged from Gothenburg's underground punk and metal scene, with members connected to notable Swedish acts such as At the Gates, Skitsystem, Martyrdöd and Miasmal. Their self-titled debut recording appeared in 2008, introducing their ambitious approach to combining crust punk aggression with atmospheric and progressive musical structures. Originally released independently as a demo, the recording subsequently received a vinyl release through Skuld Releases.
In 2010, Agrimonia released their first full-length album, "Host of the Winged", through Profane Existence and Skuld Releases. The album further developed their distinctive sound, featuring lengthy compositions built around crushing guitar riffs, intricate arrangements and dramatic changes in atmosphere.
Their second full-length album, "Rites of Separation", arrived in 2013 through Southern Lord Recordings. Mixed by Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman, the album represented another significant step in the band's musical evolution. Its five expansive tracks combined monumental heaviness, melancholic melodies and atmospheric passages, earning recognition within the international underground metal scene.
Following a five-year gap between studio albums, Agrimonia returned in January 2018 with "Awaken", again released through Southern Lord Recordings. The album continued their exploration of atmospheric and emotionally intense metal, blending powerful crust-influenced passages with melodic guitar work, dark textures and expansive songwriting.
Throughout their career, Agrimonia have maintained a strong connection to their underground roots while developing a sound that reaches far beyond traditional genre boundaries. Their combination of crust punk intensity, post-metal atmosphere and extreme metal heaviness has established them as a distinctive presence within Sweden's underground metal scene.
