The material on Born From Darkness Absolute favors a “more direct approach, embracing an almost back to basics, ferocious sound, with little room for experimenting or pushing the boundaries of the genre, while remaining true to the band’s established style,” summarizes M.
Fueled by a string of crushing live appearances, including a tour alongside Dead Congregation and Concrete Winds, the band sought to capture that same visceral energy on wax.
“For this record, we really focused on writing towards something that would translate live really well. As a result, I think this is some of our fastest material, packed with energy, while still retaining the atmospheric tendencies we’ve always incorporated. It feels like once you hit play it doesn’t let up for the entire runtime.”
What is left is an album resembling a book one cannot put down; a compelling aural narrative matched by equally engaging lyrics:
“Driven by the aggression of the music and the ferocity of riffs, the lyrical themes return to the raw foundations of the genre: religious hypocrisy, anti-society, conflict, blasphemy, and at times, the occult.”
As with MLP Bearer of Light, Matriarch of Death, the album's sonic weight is reinforced by the work of Greg Chandler (Priory Recording Studios, Esoteric-fame), who once again took the helm at the mixing desk. Artwork by Misanthropic Art complements the music's thematic concerns, drawing on Slavic folklore and Orthodox religious imagery.

Golgothan Remains is an Australian death metal band formed in Sydney, New South Wales, in 2015. Known for their oppressive atmosphere, dissonant guitar work, relentless percussion, and cavernous vocals, the band has established itself as a formidable presence within the Australian underground death metal scene.
The band made its debut in February 2016 with a self-titled three-track demo, introducing listeners to their uncompromising approach to extreme metal. Combining crushing riffs, chaotic arrangements, and a sinister atmosphere, the recording laid the foundation for their developing sound.
In February 2018, Golgothan Remains released their first full-length album, *Perverse Offerings to the Void*. Featuring ten tracks of ferocious and atmospheric death metal, the album expanded upon the foundations established by their demo. Its combination of dissonant melodies, relentless aggression, and suffocating darkness helped establish the band's identity.
Following a four-year gap between full-length releases, the band returned in April 2022 with *Adorned in Ruin*, released through Sentient Ruin Laboratories and Brilliant Emperor Records. The album showcased a more elaborate and atmospheric approach, blending intricate guitar arrangements, devastating percussion, and haunting passages into a dense and uncompromising sonic assault.
In November 2024, Golgothan Remains released the four-track EP *Bearer of Light, Matriarch of Death* through Dark Descent Records. The recording continued their exploration of dissonant and atmospheric death metal, further refining their distinctive combination of technical intensity, oppressive heaviness, and dark musical textures.
The band's lineup includes vocalist Matthieu Van den Brande, guitarist Matt Hillman, bassist Adam Martin, and drummer Aled Powell. Several members have also been involved in other underground metal projects, including Sarcophagum, Horrisonous, and Tenebrific.
In 2026, Golgothan Remains announced their third full-length album, *Born From Darkness Absolute*, scheduled for release on November 20 through Dark Descent Records.
