With "Silent Feeble Cries", THE GREAT SEA open the next chapter, subtly yet decisively expanding upon their established musical foundation. Aggressive moods are pushed further than before, while moments of melancholy increasingly find their way into the songwriting. Much of the vocal cast remains unchanged, with lead vocalist A. once again joined by guest vocalists Azathoth (Gràb, ex-Dark Fortress) and Phil "sG" Jonas (Crone, ex-Secrets Of The Moon). Yet the arrival of new forces - most notably Pelle Åhman (ex-In Solitude), whose voice can be heard on the opening track ("Thirteen Moons") - allows the band to explore entirely new and intensely immersive atmospheres. Lyrically, the album once again ventures into the complex relationship between humanity and nature. Its songs embrace both ecstatic madness and the forces of decay, corruption and decline.
At its lyrical core, "Silent Feeble Cries" deals with humanity's reconnection with nature - the origin from which we once emerged and to which we will ultimately return. This connection is conceived as both reconciliatory and raw, intimate yet inevitable: a surrender to the eternal cycle of becoming and passing away, offering humanity something in return despite all the cruelty and transience inherent in existence and the certainty that we do not simply vanish without a trace, but remain part of something greater.
This is precisely the state THE GREAT SEA seek to make tangible through their music: not comfort in any conventional sense, but an intense, almost intoxicating moment in which, for the duration of the music, the listener once again becomes part of that primal nature itself.
The music video for the song "Thirteen Moons", directed by David Gregory and filmed amid the breathtaking landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, further brings the album's central themes to life. Far removed from gratuitous visual effects and AI-generated mass-produced imagery, the video captures the stark, uncompromising beauty of the natural world, allowing the atmosphere of "Silent Feeble Cries" to resonate on a visual level as well.
While the drums, bass and the majority of the vocals were once again recorded in the band's own studio in Germany, THE GREAT SEA travelled to a remote cabin in snow-covered Sweden, not far from the great lakes Vänern and Vättern, to record the guitars and keyboards.
There, the band remained uncompromisingly true to its own sonic vision and DIY ethos. Janosch Rathmer handled the recording, production and mixing, shaping a sound that is vast and powerful while remaining raw, immediate and organic. Conventional drum samples were deliberately omitted entirely in order to preserve the natural dynamics and energy of the performances. Final mastering was handled by Tom Porcell, who brought the record to its final form with fresh ears and years of experience.
"Silent Feeble Cries" is a forceful affirmation of THE GREAT SEA's musical identity - far more than merely a follow-up album, it is a testament to the band's uncompromising artistic conviction and their determination to follow their own path to its absolute conclusion.

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

The Great Sea is an atmospheric black metal band from North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, formed in 2022 by musicians Janosch Rathmer (JR) and Stefan Hackländer (H). Combining the raw intensity of traditional black metal with expansive melodies, atmospheric arrangements and a profound connection to nature, the duo has established a distinctive musical identity rooted in darkness, isolation and the forces of the natural world.
Janosch Rathmer, known for his work with Long Distance Calling and formerly Misery Speaks, handles drums, guitars, bass and keyboards, while Stefan Hackländer, associated with Black Horizonz and Ordeal & Plight, contributes guitars and keyboards. Their shared vision was to create black metal that captures the overwhelming beauty and destructive power of nature, exploring humanity's relationship with the wilderness and the passage of time.
The band's debut full-length album, "Noble Art of Desolation", was released on April 25, 2025, through AOP Records. The record combines fierce black metal passages, haunting melodies and immersive atmospheric sections. Its seven compositions explore themes of solitude, mortality, darkness and humanity's connection to the natural world. Guest vocal appearances include Azathoth of Gràb and formerly Dark Fortress, as well as Phil "sG" Jonas of Crone and formerly Secrets of the Moon.
Following the release of their debut, The Great Sea expanded into a live formation featuring Phil Jonas on vocals, Kevin Olasz on guitar and D on bass. The band made its live debut at Prophecy Fest 2025 and subsequently appeared at Rock Hard Festival in 2026.
In November 2026, The Great Sea announced their second full-length album, "Silent Feeble Cries", scheduled for release on January 29, 2027, through AOP Records. The album promises a more aggressive yet deeply melancholic approach while continuing to explore the relationship between humanity, nature, growth and decay. Its opening track, "Thirteen Moons", features guest vocals from Pelle Åhman, formerly of In Solitude.
With their combination of uncompromising black metal, evocative atmospheres and deeply introspective themes, The Great Sea continues to develop a powerful musical vision that celebrates both the majesty and the unforgiving darkness of the natural world.
