ROTTING CHRIST The Heretics
HotHeading into their third decade as a band Greek veterans Rotting Christ are still going strong as they strike back with their 13th full length album entitled ‘The Heretic’. While starting out as a grindcore band in their early days their music has evolved towards melodic black metal and over the years they have refined their expression from album to album. I really got into Rotting Christ’s music around the ‘Genesis’/’Sanctus Diavolos’ area and still appreciate those two albums a lot as well as their mighty successor ‘Theagonia’. On ‘The Heretic’ Rotting Christ sound more epic and bombastic than ever with huge arrangements and atmospheric choirs in perfect harmony with massive walls of drums, bass and guitars served with a clear and transparent, yet powerful Jens Bogren production. Another thing I love about this album is Sakis storytelling approach to the vocals which really draw your attention towards the albums lyrical concept. Despite their wide discography of strong albums I would range ‘The Heretics’ as one of their best to date. Highly recommended.
