It’s been two years since ‘Reclaimer’, the last full length album from Conneticut/Rhode Island based Shadow Of Intent saw the light of day, but now the wait is finally over as they return with their highly anticipated successor entitled ‘Melancholy’. ‘Reclaimer’ was an excellent album, probably one of the most played at my home over the last couple of years actually, but with ‘Melancholy’ they have really raised the...

Amon Amarth, the undisputed Swedish kings of melodic death metal strikes again with their eleventh full length album entitled ‘Berserker, and as always our Swedish friends have delivered pure quality. Amon Amarth is a band that have remained true to their style over the years, and the formula is pretty much the same as always this time as well. With that stated I must add that they have incorporated...

Every now and then when listening through loads of new albums you’re in for a big surprise when you least expect it, and that was certainly the case when I first heard this debut album from Atlanta, Georgia based Paladin. Stylistically we’re talking a blend of power metal, thrash and melodic death metal, nothing unique actually but what separates ‘Ascension’ from the masses is the freshness and raw energy...

'Apoptosis' is fifth full-lenght album from Denver, Colorado based Allegaeon, and as all their previous albums this one is also released through Metal Blade Records. Guitarist Greg Burgess is the only remaining original member, but the sound is still unmistakeable Allegaeon and we're of course talking melodic technical death metal. The basis of the music is both technical and quite brutal, while orchestral/keyboard arrangements alongside beautiful guitar and bass lines...

American deathcore outfit Enterprise Earth strikes back with their third full length album consisting of twelve new tracks and a total runtime of just above 50 minutes. A quite long album for the genre in other words. I haven’t heard any of their previous albums so I can’t say how their music has evolved over the years, but I definitely like what I hear on ‘Luciferous’. Front man Dan...

California based technical death metal trio Inanimate Existence returns with their fifth full-length album in just seven years, set for a May 10th release through The Artisan Era. Even though being one of the most productive bands around right now, these guys have always managed to deliver consistent quality on every album and ‘Clockwork’ is no exception in that respect. According to the band themselves the thematic focus for...

Crafting The Conspiracy is a new acquaintance to me, heading from Odessa, Texas and they promote themselves as a melodic death metal band. I would probably rather file them as deathcore, but of course with elements of both melodic- and more brutal death metal. ‘The Cosmic Key, pt. 1’ is a six track EP with a total runtime of just above 26 minutes. Maybe I’m old fashioned but I...

Equipoise features an amalgamation of well-respected musicians within the technical death metal community, a death metal super group in other words. The seven man strong line-up consist of Steve Boiser (Inferi) on vocals, guitarists Nick Padovani (Virulent Depravity), Phil Tougas (First Fragment) and Sanjay Kumar (Wormhole), Hugo Doyton-Karout (Beyond Creation) on fretless bass, Jimmy Pitts (NYN) on keyboards and finally Chason Westmoreland (ex-The Faceless) on drums. 'Demiurgus' is an...

Swedish doom legends Candlemass returns with their first studio album in seven years, and it also marks the return of singer Johan Längquist to the line-up. As most of you probably already know Längquist was the man behind the microphone on their legendary 1986 album 'Epicus Doomicus Metallicus', and in my opinion 'The Door To Doom' may very well be their best album since that memorable debut.  Leif Edling...

Heading into their third decade as a band Greek veterans Rotting Christ are still going strong as they strike back with their 13th full length album entitled ‘The Heretic’. While starting out as a grindcore band in their early days their music has evolved towards melodic black metal and over the years they have refined their expression from album to album. I really got into Rotting Christ’s music around...
