ACCEPT Too Mean To Die
HotMore than four decades have passed since Accept released their self‑titled debut in 1979, yet the band continues to push forward with remarkable vitality. Lineup changes have been frequent over the years, and since The Rise of Chaos, founding bassist Peter Baltes has departed, leaving guitarist Wolf Hoffmann as the sole remaining original member. Even so, Accept proves they still have plenty of fire left. Too Mean to Die sounds invigorated, sharp, and unmistakably like a band still in its prime.
In fact, I’d go so far as to rank it among the top four Accept albums ever, surpassed only by the classics Metal Heart, Balls to the Wall, and Restless and Wild. This is also the fifth album featuring Mark Tornillo on vocals, and his performance here may well be his strongest to date.
Wolf Hoffmann remains the creative engine of the band, and his guitar work on this record is exceptional. He continues to craft riffs, hooks, solos, and harmonies with a signature blend of precision and melody that elevates every track. His ability to write memorable, effective guitar lines is as impressive now as it was decades ago.
Too Mean to Die features 11 tracks and runs just over 53 minutes, offering a balanced mix of up‑tempo burners, mid‑tempo heavy hitters, and even a ballad‑tinged moment in “The Best Is Yet to Come.” The consistency is striking and there’s not a weak track in sight.
Simply put, if you consider yourself an Accept fan, or a fan of traditional heavy metal in general, this is an album you don’t want to miss.
