Sweden’s reigning melodic death metal vikings return with their thirteenth full‑length album, and while The Allfather Awakens is unmistakably Amon Amarth, it marks a noticeable shift back toward the band’s earlier, grittier roots. The overly polished sheen that crept into some of their recent releases is dialed back here, giving the record a more immediate, muscular feel.

The riffs sound fresher and more energized than they have in years, and the songwriting overall feels revitalized—leaner, stronger, and more engaging. Many of the tracks are built around big, anthemic choruses tailor‑made for festival crowds and future live‑set staples. Johan Hegg remains one of the genre’s most commanding vocalists, delivering his trademark roar with clarity, power, and conviction.

Innovation isn’t the point here, and Amon Amarth make no attempt to reinvent themselves. Instead, The Allfather Awakens succeeds by doubling down on what they do best: heroic melodies, driving mid‑tempo rhythms, and a sense of mythic grandeur that has become their signature. It’s a memorable, thoroughly enjoyable record that should satisfy long‑time devotees and appeal broadly to fans of melodic death metal.

A confident, back‑to‑form release from a band that still knows exactly how to rally the hordes.
