German band Apallic released an EP a couple of years ago, but this is their first full-length album. I've noticed that they are beeing promoted as a progressive/technical death metal band, but even though there are such elements in their music I tend more towards defining it as melodic death metal. The first thing that came to my mind when i first heard  'Of Fate And Sanity' was; "wow, this sounds quite a bit like Amon Amarth". Apallic is by no means a rip-off of their Swedish colleagues, but I'm quite sure both bands will appeal to the same group of fans. The song material on this album is very strong and I really like the way they manage to combine brutal and heavy riffing with super nice and catchy melodies. Another aspect that I love about this album is the excellent, deep growling vocals of Eike Scheubach which fits the music like a glove. As already stated, the song material is premium quality, but if I had to pick a couple of favorites from the album it would probably be 'The Watchmaker' and the nearly fourteen minutes long 'A Taste Of Lethe'. If you're a fan of melodic death metal with a technical/progressive edge 'Of Fate And Sanity' would certainly be well worth checking out
