BEYOND CREATION Earthborn Evolution

‘The Aura’, the debut album of Canadian technical death metal outfit Beyond Creation was some kind of a well-hidden treasure for a couple of years until it was re-released by Season Of Mist last year. It was simply a stunning debut showing both amazing musicianship, as well as the bands ability to create great songs. Now the highly anticipated follow up album is here and I must admit that I was excited to see if the guys were able to follow up such an impressing debut. The short version of the answer to that is; YES! With ‘Earthborn Evolution’ Beyond Creation takes what they did on ‘The Aura’ to the next level. Everything you hear on this album seems to be there for a well thought through reason and despite the complexity in the arrangements, the melodies are allowed to shine through and that is one thing bands in this genre sometimes seems to forget. As on ‘The Aura’ the vocals changes between deep growling and the more screaming kind and that combination still works quite well. In complex music like this you often see the guitar players steels the show, but in Beyond Creation they are given razor sharp competition by the bass player. Just listen to some of the stuff Dominic Lapointe delivers, it’s simply amazing. But as I said earlier it’s not the outstanding musicianship alone that makes ‘Earthborn Evolution’ one of the best albums of this year, it’s also the atmosphere and excellent quality of the song material and of course the crystal clear production that allows all details to shine through. Enough said, just listen to the album and find out yourself.
