Evisceration Plague has easily been the most played record in my household over the past month, and it’s still spinning almost constantly, much to my better half’s growing frustration. From the very first seconds, the blistering opener “Priests of Sorrow” hits like a hammer to the skull, leaving no room to breathe. From that point on, Cannibal Corpse deliver nothing short of a masterclass in how death metal is meant to sound.

This is a band operating at full power. The riffs are razor-sharp, the rhythms relentless, and George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher once again cements his position as the undisputed king of death growling. His performance here isn’t just impressive, it’s commanding, authoritative, and utterly dominant.

To be clear, Evisceration Plague doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel. Seasoned listeners know what to expect. Like Iron Maiden or AC/DC, comparisons made purely in terms of consistency, Cannibal Corpse remain fiercely loyal to their tried-and-true formula. But honestly, who the hell cares about innovation when the songwriting is this strong?

Track after track delivers the goods, with a level of precision and intensity that few bands in the genre can match. There’s no filler here, just a relentless barrage of high-caliber death metal executed with surgical brutality.

In my ears, Evisceration Plague stands as the finest album the American death metal juggernaut has released to date, and that’s saying something.

Do yourself a favor: go out and get it.
