CANNIBAL CORPSE Red Before Black

Genre defining death metal veterans Cannibal Corpse are finally back with their 14th studio album, and as always they have remained true to the formula that have been their trademark since the very beginning three decades ago. The one thing that really have changed to the better this time is the production. The allover sound is organic and fat, but yet crystal clear and the drums in particular sounds beefier and puchier than ever gluing everything else together. The guitars sounds huge as hell, and together with the bass and drums they make a massive foundation underneath Corpsegrinder's charismatic vocals. I also love the way the lead guitars nicely cuts through the mix allowing the listener to hear every single note.....and there's a lot of them. Thumbs up to producer Erik Rutan for this excellent work. Their prewious two albums didn't receive as much of my attention as I would normally have expected, don't get me wrong they were both good albums, but the song material wasn't really top notch in my opinion. This time around though Cannibal Corpse are back on track in that respect as well, so let's just sum everything up; The band sounds tight and vital as ever, the song material is excellent and it comes with the, by far, best production to date. Therefore I can safely proclaim 'Red Before Black' one of the best, if not THE best, Cannibal Corpse albums to date.
