DAWN OF TEARS Act III: The Dying Eve

Even though the title of the new Dawn Of Tears album can be a bit misleading, it is only their second studio album. This Spanish melodic death metal quintet was formed back in 1999, while their debut album ‘Decent’ was released in 2007. As far as I recall I haven’t heard the debut so I can’t say too much about that one. The new one on the other hand, entitled ‘Act III: The dying eve’ is quite an interesting affair. The baseline of Dawn Of Tears sound is melodic death metal in the vein of bands emerging from the Gothenburg scene, but in addition to this Dawn of Tears have incorporated other elements into their sound such as a few electronic samples and atmospheric keyboards creating a dark, symphonic and at times almost gothic atmosphere.  Some parts in a few of the songs even have a certain Cradle Of Filth feeling to them. The song material on ‘Act III: They Dying Eve’ is very strong and has a lot more variation in it than you normally would expect from a melodic death metal release and the production is quite good as well. Dawn Of Tears have succeeded in their effort of stretching the boundaries of the genre with this album that I in all honesty can say is one of the best melodic death metal album I’ve heard in years.
