DEATH DEALER War Master

Death Dealer is probably a new name to some, myself included, but if you are a fan of traditional heavy metal and power metal you will soon discover a few familiar faces in the lineup, some real veterans within the genre. ‘War Master’ was originally released in 2013 on CD, but is now also made available on vinyl. Death Dealer is actually more like a US power metal all-star band, consisting of members and former members of bands like Manowar (Ross The Boss and Rhino), Cage (Sean Peck), Empires Of Eden (Stu Marshall) Lizzy Borden and Halford (Mike Davis). The material mostly consist of full speed ahead US power metal, some may choose to define it as speed metal, with blistering fast drums, guitar riffs and leads and of course the high pitch screaming vocals of Sean Peck on top of it all. Fortunately there are also a few slower and mid-tempo parts to find here to secure the much needed variation. The recipe is well known so don’t expect any innovative twist and turns when you listen to ‘War Master’, at times it reminds slightly of Judas Priest’s ‘Painkiller’ album in terms of energy and intensity. The vocals does sound a bit stressful at times, but it’s absolutely not worse than I can live with it. Otherwise the song material is quite good and so is the production, so all in all ‘War Master’ is an enjoyable album if fast power metal is your cup of tea.
