ICHOR Hadal Ascending
Hot'Hadal Ascending' is the fourth full-length album from German death metal act Ichor. The album links thematically to their earlier albums 'Benthic Horizon' and 'Depths'. The fictional story of a devastated and hate-filled deep-sea world full of creatures and mystical beings continues: Human warriors reached the hadal-level in the deep sea and fight a bitter war against gorgons and creatures of the depths. To implore transcendent energies, rituals are held during the slaughter. The demon “Zaan” wakes and feeds on the blood of the warriors. He opens the portal to other worlds and as leader of gorgons and creatures, he leads them through the portal into the empire of stars and planets. The foundation of Ichor's music is death metal, but with elements of both black metal and doom incorporated into their sound. The material on 'Hadal Ascending' is varied with up-tempo, blast beat driven parts mixed with more traditional mid-tempo death metal and even some more doomy parts. The music is not overly technical, but nicely arranged with a beautiful dark atmosphere to underline the conceptual story. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered in Hertz Studio Poland which has previously housed the likes of Behmoth, Decapitated, Hate and Vader. All in all 'Hadal Ascending' is an excellent album that can easily be recommended.
