IMMOLATION Atonement
HotNew York based death metal veterans Immolation are back with theri 10th studio album, and Ross Dolan, Robert Vigna and their band mates are still going strong despite a carreer spanning over nearly three decades. If you're already into Immolations musical universe you know what to expect from a new album and you know what you get. No big surprises here in other words. Straight forward, in your face brutal death metal with a touch of technical finesse. If you search behind a massive wall of drums, bass and de-tuned guitars you will descover nicely arranged melody lines, guitar harmonies and leads. On top of it all rules Dolan's raw gutteral vocals. When it comes to the song material it's solid quality from start to end and I'm sure Atonement will appeal to Immolations faithful horde of fans even though it doesn't quite reach the standard of some of their earlier albums. Personally I'm not a big fan of the slightly muddy old school kind of production Immolations seems to be swearing to on their albums, but that is of course a matter of taste.
