IN FLAMES Siren Charms

In Flames once sorted among my favorite bands within the melodic death metal genre, but that was then and this is now. ‘Clayman’ was actually the last album that I offered any serious attention, and since then the curve has more or less pointed straight downhill. Ok, ‘Sounds of a playground fading’ did have its moments with some hints of the past but that’s about it. Since the release of their previous album In Flames have moved on from Century Media to Sony Music which of course made my alarm bell ring, and my worries was soon confirmed when I heard the album – In Flames have moved even further away from their death metal roots in search for commercial success. ‘Siren Charms’ has a very polished and radio friendly production and I’m sure some of these songs will be played at commercial radio stations around the world. There’s not much left here reminding of the melodic death metal band In Flames used to be that’s for sure, but to be fair I must add that the song material is quite catchy and well produced so I’m sure it will be well received by newer fans of the band. For me personally though it doesn’t work, I think the whole album sucks and I’m very disappointed since the previous album had a few promising elements.
