JOB FOR A COWBOY Sun Eater
JOB FOR A COWBOY Sun Eater-BACK

I not quite sure whether its Job For A Cowboy or my musical taste that have gone through significant changes since the last time I reviewed an album from these guys – but something is different for sure. Starting as a metal core/death core band Job For A Cowboy has gradually turned more and more towards technical death metal and with ‘Sun Eater’ they have finally found their place in the musical landscape and it is by far their best effort to date. The song material is simply much stronger and more consistent than on their previous albums and that is of course the main reason why every piece of the puzzle seems to have fallen in place this time around. I have never doubted the potential or the technical abilities of this band, but the combination of their previous flirting with metal core and the stressful screaming vocal simply didn’t appeal to me. The screaming vocal is still there but not as dominant as before, and as long as they combine it with the more typical deep death metal type of vocal I’m fully able to live with it. I approached ‘Sun Eater’ with very low expectations, but now I’m just glad that I gave it a chance cause it’s really a rock solid technical death metal album that I highly recommend to fans of the genre. Probably one of the most pleasant surprises of the year.
