LABYRINTH Arcitecture Of a God

I have to admit that it's been a while since I paid attention to Italian melodic power metal/progressive metal light band Labyrinth in the later years. Their 1998 masterpiece 'Return To Heaven Denied' is still one of my favorite albums within this genre, but their following albums were pretty average to be honest and therefore I kind of lost my interest in the band. Labyrint today consists of guitar duo and founder members Andrea Cantarelli (Anders Rain) and Carlo Andrea Magnani (Olaf Thorsen) alongside singer Roberto Tiranti (Rob Tyrant) who joined the band in 1997. In adition to those new guys Oleg Smirnoff (Keys), John Macaluso (Drums) and Nik Mazzucconi (bass) were added to the line-up last year. So what about the music on Architecture Of A God then? Well, I was actually in for a pleasent surprice since the band actually sounds more vital than they did for the past couple of decades and when it comes to song material this is definitely their best album since RTHD. The production is very good as well. The formula is still Melodic Power Metal with a touch of progressive finesse, not full speed ahead double bass drums all the way as you might expect but wiht a good portion of variation. All songs are premium quality, but if I had to pick one favourite it would have to be the beautiful and nearly 9 minutes long title track. Enough said, fans of the genre should definitely check out this one and I'm sure some progressive metal fans will find it interesting as well. Welcome back Labyrinth.
