MORS PRINCIPIUM EST Seven

Mors Principium Est now enters its third decade as a band with the release of their seventh full‑length album, fittingly titled Seven. After numerous lineup changes over the years, the group has effectively been distilled down to vocalist Ville Viljanen and British guitarist Andy Gillion. Gillion recorded the guitars and orchestral arrangements in his home studio, while drums and vocals were tracked at Ansa Studio in Finland. The album was then mixed and mastered by Thomas “Plec” Johansson at The Panic Room in Sweden.

Some may argue that Mors Principium Est has never radically reinvented the melodic death metal formula, and there’s truth to that. Yet they remain one of the genre’s most consistently reliable acts, and Seven reinforces exactly why. The material sounds unmistakably like Mors Principium Est, but in the best possible way. The album is packed with atmosphere, elegant melodies, sharp and tasteful riffing, and, of course, Viljanen’s unmistakable vocal presence, still one of the strongest voices in this style.

Having followed the band since their debut, I can say that Seven maintains the high standard they’ve upheld throughout their career. In fact, it stands among their finest work to date, delivering a cohesive, inspired, and thoroughly engaging take on melodic death metal.
