NOTHGARD Malady X

It´s been a while since I heard any of Nothgards previous albums, but I remember them as good but nothing special. Now they are back with their fourth studio album entitled ´Malady X´, after having signed a multi album deal with Metal Blade Records earlier this year. The style is pretty much the same as before, which means melodic death metal with a technical edge, but it feels like the band has taken a hughe step forward when it comes to songwriting and arrangements. According to the band themselves they have never before paid as much attention to details in the arrangemens as they did on this album and that has certainly paid off. All elleven tracks on the album are high quality, catchy melodic death metal anthems, well reocorded and produced by the band themselves with mastering duties handed to none other than Mr. Jens Bogren. The nice balance between hard riffing guitars, leads and tasteful keyboard arrangements gives the album a real atmospheric and epic feel. If you go for the limited edition of the album you will get to additional bonus tracks, including a nice cover of Europe´s ´Ninja´. ´Malady X´is definately one to look out for if you like melodic death metal.
