SEPTICFLESH Codex Omega
HotOur greek friends in Septicflesh are back with their 10th studioalbum, and as always it sounds unmistakeable Septicflesh although everything has been taken a step further this time. That goes for the orchestration in particular, and I'm almost tempted to define this as a death metal symphony rather than a symphonic death metal album. I'm sure most fans will love the sound of 'Codex Omega', but I guess some muy say it's too much and that the orchestration has been taken too far. Personally I belong to the first cathegory and in my opinion this is close to the perfect mixture of death metal and symphonic orchestration and it comes with a perfect production as well allowing all instruments and details their own space in the otherwise massive wall of sound. Spiros Anoniou's growling vocals are among the best in the genre and truly a joy listening to. There's a little bit of clean singing on the album as well delivered by guitarist Sotiris Vayenas, not too much but just about enough to add contrast and variation to the main growling vocals. The most important aspect about this album though is of course the songmaterial, and in that respect I do actually consider Codex Omega the best Septicflesh album to date. I spimply cant' fint anything negative to say about this monster of an album and therefore I have no other choice than awarding it top score.
