SLAYER Repentless
HotSlayer are back with their first studio album without the late Jeff Hanneman, and there were of course excitement among the fans on how Slayer would sound without their riff maestro and main songwriter. Dave Lombardo is also out of the band, leaving the drumming duties to Paul Bostaph. To fill the enourmous shoes of Hanneman Exodus' main man Gary Holt has been hired in and though I don't know how much he actually plays on the album there's no reason to doubt his talent nor his influence. I may not be the biggest Slayer fan on the planet, but I do hear that 'Repentless' sounds unmistakable Slayer. It's probably their most thrashy album for years, and in my opinion their best effort in a decade and a half as well. Theres quite a few good thrashy riffs to be heard and some really good lead guitar work as well. Together with a tight and driving rythm forece and Tom Arayas charismatic voice on top of it actually can't go wrong. Slayer remain faithful to their roots an even though 'Repentless' never reaches the heights of 'Reign In Blood' it's still a good album that I'm quite sure will be well received by the faithful Slayer hordes.
