UTMARKEN Förfallstid

Utmarken is a Swedish folk metal band fronted by singer and main composer Mathias Gyllengahm, and "Förfallstid" is their second studio album. For some reason I missed out on their debut, but I will surely check it out after having heard this masterpiece. Through the lyrics the listener is dragged onto a magical journey through Swedish nature and history wrapped into the most beautiful folk metal tunes imaginable. You can certainly draw a few parallels between Utmarken and Vintersorg, espesically when it comes to atmosphere and lyrical themes but Utmaken does not incorporate the black metal elements and grim vocals that Vintersorg are known for into. What really makes this album something spesical though is the amazing quality of the song material, not a single week moment insight throughout the album and the production is very good as well. "Förfallstid" is a mighty album and a wet dream for any fan of premium quality folk metal, a true masterpiece.
