WHILE HEAVEN WEPT Suspended At Aphelion
Hot
I must admit that I haven’t offered Wihile Heaven Wept too much attention in the past despite the fact that their history reaches over twenty years back in time, but I guess I have to do something about that after having heard their new creation entitled ‘Suspended At Aphelion’ a few times. It is truly a grandiose album with some amazing atmospheric, epic songs and so much variation that it really demands patience from the listener. Even though each of the songs are great alone you really have to consume the album in whole in order to discover it’s greatness. While Heaven Wept’s music are often referred to as epic metal, and that’s actually just what it is as well. But what makes it epic is the impressing blend of several different styles such as metal, extreme metal, progressive rock/metal and classical music. Just listen to the beautiful orchestral keyboard and piano parts with great melodic guitar leads on top of it, the changes between the calm atmospheric parts and the heavier parts that makes perfect contrast to each other and finally everything is topped by great vocals. All of this has been wrapped into an excellent, organic and open production that fits the all over atmosphere of the album like a glove. If you’re looking for only one epic metal album this year ‘Suspended At Aphelion’ is probably the answer you are looking for. The only negative thing I can say about this masterpiece is that it’s a bit too short with a total running time just over 39 minutes.
