Portland’s death metal seers AENIGMATUM have premiered their new album "Infinitude’s Passage" via 20 Buck Spin – it is out and available now digitally, followed by a CD/LP release on September 4th 2026.
You can listen to "Infinitude’s Passage" in its entirety here:
"Infinitude’s Passage" marks the third full length statement from AENIGMATUM. Taking the intricate mastery of previous album "Deconsecrate" as a point of departure, the band’s union of technical precision, dark melody and unrelenting force draw us ever further into a world where revelation and annihilation become indistinguishable.
Sudden turns, fractured rhythms and spiraling harmonies color a landscape of seemingly elaborate complexity, yet Aenigmatum are serving a larger, deeper structure with an exacting sense of purpose and focus. Frenetic eruptions of speed give way to passages of melodious clarity and dissonant turbulence allowing the compositions to remain in constant motion and expand idiosyncratically upward and outward.
Cerebral without sacrificing physical impact, majestic without surrendering menace and progressive without loosening its vigorous command, ‘Infinitude’s Passage’ rejects easy categorization within Death Metal’s exceedingly vast parameters. Its visceral impact, incandescent melody and aura of perpetual discovery places AENIGMATUM at the threshold of the boundless.

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

Formed in Portland, Oregon in 2017, Ænigmatum has established itself as one of the most intriguing names in the modern American extreme metal underground. Blending technical death metal, atmospheric black metal and progressive songwriting, the band has developed a distinctive sound that is both intellectually challenging and emotionally immersive.
The band's lineup features vocalist and guitarist Gage VanWormer, guitarist Evan Nystrom, bassist Scott Mowery, and drummer Brandon Corsair. Drawing inspiration from the vastness of nature, existential philosophy and the darker aspects of the human condition, Ænigmatum crafts compositions that balance crushing heaviness with intricate melodies and expansive atmospheres.
Their first release, the demo Indoctrination of Mourning (2018), quickly attracted attention within the underground scene thanks to its ambitious songwriting and technical precision. This momentum led to the release of the band's self-titled debut album in 2019 through Chaos Records. The album showcased a mature blend of progressive death metal and blackened aggression, earning praise from critics and listeners alike.
In 2021, Ænigmatum took a significant step forward with the release of their sophomore album, Deconsecrate, issued by 20 Buck Spin. The album received widespread acclaim for its sophisticated songwriting, exceptional musicianship and dynamic balance between brutality and atmosphere. Rather than relying solely on speed and technicality, the band emphasized memorable compositions filled with layered harmonies, dissonant passages and emotionally charged melodies.
While rooted in technical and progressive death metal, Ænigmatum refuses to be confined by genre boundaries. Their music seamlessly incorporates elements of black metal, doom, post-metal and atmospheric soundscapes, creating an immersive listening experience that rewards repeated exploration. The band's lyrical themes often revolve around mortality, transformation, cosmic insignificance and spiritual introspection.
Although Ænigmatum maintains a relatively low profile compared to many of their contemporaries, they have earned a devoted following among fans of forward-thinking extreme metal. Their meticulous approach to songwriting and refusal to compromise artistically have made them one of the most respected emerging acts in the modern underground.
With a steadily growing reputation and an uncompromising artistic vision, Ænigmatum continues to push the boundaries of extreme metal, standing as one of the Pacific Northwest's most promising and innovative bands.
