Finland’s extreme metal band AGARWAEN has released a new music video for the single “Orphan Son,” taken from the band’s full-length “The Murder Trend,” whose release is set on July 3rd 2026 via Over The Border Records.
Pre-order the album “The Murder Trend” on Bandcamp.
The video of “Orphan Son” perfectly captures what playing on stage means for AGARWAEN. Their live shows are a blend of theatre and music, enhanced by real actors, with each song featuring its own script and props. They are constantly finding ways to improve what happens on the stage and come up with more small details to amaze the audience.
Placed as #4 in the tracklist, “Orphan Son” starts where the previous track & single “God Complex” has finished. Anton’s mother was killed. She signed a paper where she stated that she had committed a suicide and the school boys had nothing to do with this. Anton couldn’t stand the fact that the boys got away with this…He had no other relatives but his uncle, but he lived in a graveyard….And that is no place for a young boy…
AGARWAEN’s upcoming album “The Murder Trend” deals with abuse, trauma, revenge, and inherited madness. Told as a chronological horror narrative, the album follows Anton, a boy broken by systemic cruelty, whose life spirals from neglect and violence into ritualized murder in a circus set and cult indoctrination. What begins as social tragedy evolves into something far more grotesque: a generational curse embodied through masks and a carnival of death.
“The Murder Trend” moves between cinematic instrumentals, relentless extreme metal, crazy combinations of different styles, and theatrical passages that underline the story’s psychological collapse. It’s groovy, it’s progressive, violent as hell and yet brings a twisted smile on your face when you listen to it.
The album was mastered by Grammy Award - winning Svante Forsbäck, produced by Emma Award–winning Teemu Aalto, and will be released on July 3rd, 2026. Pre-order the album as CD/digital on the label’s Bandcamp page.

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

Agarwaen is a Finnish avant-garde extreme metal band formed in 2006, originally under the name Shathanas. Emerging from Kouvola and later based in Helsinki, the group has carved out a unique identity within the underground scene with their self-described style of “asylum metal.”
Blending elements of melodic black metal, death metal, thrash, and even industrial and power metal, Agarwaen’s sound is deliberately chaotic and theatrical. Their music is characterized by unpredictable structures, cinematic atmospheres, and a strong emphasis on horror-inspired themes, often exploring madness, psychological trauma, and dark storytelling.
After reforming in 2006, the band released their debut EP Vrykolakas in 2010. However, activity slowed soon after, and Agarwaen entered a long hiatus. Nearly a decade later, founder and songwriter Anthony Hodju revived the project, recording the band’s first full-length album, Dottore I (2019), with the help of session musicians.
Agarwaen continued to expand their conceptual and musical scope with their second album, Channel: Lunacy (2023), produced by Teemu Aalto (known for work with Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum). The album introduced a fictional cult narrative centered around madness and manipulation, further cementing the band’s reputation for blending extreme metal with theatrical storytelling.
In 2026, the band signed with Over The Border Records and prepared the release of their third full-length album, The Murder Trend. The record is presented as a dark, narrative-driven concept album exploring themes of abuse, revenge, and generational trauma, combining brutal extreme metal with cinematic and progressive elements.
Known for their intense and immersive live performances, Agarwaen incorporates visual storytelling, actors, and horror aesthetics into their shows, creating a chaotic and “asylum-like” experience that reflects their music.
With their genre-defying approach and strong conceptual focus, Agarwaen stands out as one of the more unconventional acts in the Finnish extreme metal underground.
