Sweden/Germany/Finland based Age of Woe draws inspiration from doom metal, death metal, prog and sludge - with their own unique touch and interpretation. With praised performances at festivals like Inferno Metal Festival, Incubate Festival, SWR Barroselas Metalfest, Berlin Swamp Fest, Bloodshed Fest and Scorched Tundra to name a few and several successful tours - Age of Woe is an explosive force on stage. Age of Woe unloads pure audio destruction: not overly calculated, lightning-fast or technical, but reliably menacing and tremendously heavy. With the recent addition of Keijo Niinimaa (Rotten Sound/Morbid Evils/Goatburner) they have expanded their sound further to incapsulate some elements of progressive rock, which stacks well on top of their death metal foundations. The band is currently in the studio putting down the final touches on their new album full of a unique, blood-pumping urgency that has produced something undeniably heavy. The world needs them.
Have a doomy x-mas!

2010 – The birth of Age of Woe
In the summer of 2010 a group of musicians from the Gothenburg punk and metal scene joined forces with a shared desire to explore new territories. The result: The both genre-crossing and distinctly underground band that is Age of Woe.
2011 – Age of Woe progresses
2011 saw the recording of Age of Woe’s debut 7” EP, which was released in September of the same year (digitally through Pivotal Rockordings in December) to great critical acclaim from both press and audience. The band further promoted their first offering by performing a short set in the Belly of the Whale studio in Gothenburg which was live streamed on-line. This event proved to be a greater success than anyone had expected.
Work on the first fullength album then began during the fall and culminated in a trip to a cottage in the woods, where the band isolated themselves for a week to work more intensely on the album.
Age of Woe didn’t waste any time in hitting the stages either. Throughout 2011 the band played a bunch of shows, including a mini-tour in Germany, and ended the year with a grand gig at the Scorched Tundra Festival at Sticky Fingers in Gothenburg.
2012 – A legendary recording session
After a successful European tour, work on the debut album was resumed. In July Age of Woe teamed up with legendary producer Lennart Östlund (Led Zeppelin, Candlemass) from Polar Studios and Carlos Sepulveda (No Hawaii, Joe Baresi, Psycore). The band retreated to the countryside outside Bettna in Sweden and took refuge in an 18th century estate named Rosenhanska Magasinet to record the forthcoming album named ”Inhumanform”. The music for this album was recorded live in 4 days and after that the band headed home to Gothenburg to do vocals and mixing at Belly of the Whale studio with Carlos Sepulveda handling the levers. ”Inhumanform” was then mastered by Brad Boatright at AudioSiege (Sleep, High on Fire, From Ashes Rise).
2013 – ”Inhumanform” unleashed
In 2013 Age of Woe released their highly anticipated debut album ”Inhumanform” (Give Praise Records/Suicide Records), which was met with praise and raving reviews. The band headed out on a summer tour through Europe followed by festival appearances in Denmark, Germany and The Netherlands, most notably at the Incubate Festival. The rest of the year was spent writing new material for a follow-up to “Inhumanform”.
2014 – An Age of Woe that last for 100 years
During the first half of 2014, Age of Woe toured throughout Europe including a show at the renowned SWR Barroselas Metalfest in Portugal. The track “Born of Fire”, which was recorded during the “Inhumanform”-session, was released both as a music video (filmed by Greyscull studios at Arena 29 in Gothenburg) and as the a-side on a split 7″ with 100 Years. Over the summer focus has again been given to continue writing the bands second album.
2015-2016 – An Ill Wind Blowing
In 2015 Age of woe toured a lot and covered a big part of europe. From france in the west, to chech republic in the east, to iceland in the north.
After some changes in the line-up, the work towards a second full length album could take place again and…
