Italy’s ASSUMPTION return with "Paradox Of The Arrow", a new descent into the strange temporal architecture of Death Doom – scheduled for November 13th 2026 via 20 Buck Spin.
A first track of the band's third album, "Tombs Upon The Sun", can be seen below:
Since their earliest recordings ASSUMPTION have treated the genre less as a monolith set in stone than a space in which mass, duration and atmosphere can be manipulated. On "Paradox Of The Arrow" that process advances further, stretching the apparent distance between one moment and the next time itself dissipates into an altered abstraction.
ASSUMPTION’s immense low-end foundations remain, but the band’s heaviness is rarely a matter of density alone. Riffs unfurl geologically, like the convergent boundary to a subduction zone, before abruptly accelerating into passages of violent Death Metal, only to collapse again into long intervals of suspension, dissonant guitar resonance and spectral ambience. Guttural vocals emerge from deep within while drums alternately measure out enormous spaces and rupture them without warning. Melody appears in oblique fragments rather than conventional resolution, and psychedelic details flicker at the margins, where quiet stillness can feel as consequential as impact and the vibrations of beauty and dread dissolve into an amorphous shimmering light.
Taking its name from Zeno’s ancient paradox of motion; the proposition that an arrow in flight, observed at any single instant, is motionless; "Paradox of the Arrow" finds an apt philosophical analogue for ASSUMPTION’s music. These 6 tracks from the depths draw the listener through successive states of movement and inertia, collapsing the notion of linear time. Across its prolonged passages and sudden eruptions, the album continually distorts the sense of scale and duration. By the time the arrow reaches its mark, the path behind it feels far less certain than when it began.

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

Assumption is an Italian death/doom metal band formed in Palermo, Sicily, in 2011 by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Giorgio Trombino and drummer David Lucido. From the beginning, the band set out to explore an exceptionally dark and atmospheric interpretation of death/doom, combining crushing heaviness and funeral-paced passages with psychedelic, ritualistic and otherworldly elements.
The band first emerged with the demo *Mosaic of the Distant Dominion* in 2012, introducing the oppressive and deeply atmospheric sound that would become central to Assumption's identity. This was followed in 2014 by the ambitious EP *The Three Appearances*, a lengthy and experimental work that pushed their death/doom further into hypnotic and psychedelic territory.
Assumption released their debut full-length album, *Absconditus*, in 2018 through Everlasting Spew Records and Sentient Ruin Laboratories. Built around massive doom-laden riffs, cavernous vocals and eerie atmospheric passages, the album established the band as a distinctive presence within the underground death/doom scene.
During the following years, Assumption expanded beyond its original two-man configuration. Bassist Claudio Troise and guitarist Matija Dolinar joined the line-up, having initially contributed to the band's live activities. The expanded incarnation of Assumption was subsequently featured on the band's second full-length album, *Hadean Tides*, released in 2022. The record further developed their mixture of crushing death/doom, psychedelia, ambient textures and progressive experimentation while retaining the oppressive weight of their earlier material.
Lyrically and conceptually, Assumption draw heavily upon spirituality, philosophy and esoteric themes. Their music frequently moves between enormous, slow-moving doom passages and heavier death metal sections, surrounded by synthesizers, ambience and psychedelic textures that give their material an almost cosmic and ceremonial character.
After releases through labels including Everlasting Spew Records and Sentient Ruin Laboratories, Assumption signed with American label 20 Buck Spin for their third full-length album. The band entered the studio around the end of 2025, with the album scheduled for release in 2026.
Assumption remain active with a line-up consisting of Giorgio Trombino on guitars, bass, vocals, synthesizers and ambience, David Lucido on drums, Claudio Troise on bass and Matija Dolinar on guitars.
