Azarath is a Polish death/black metal band formed in Tczew, Pomerania, in 1998. Known for their ferocious combination of brutal death metal, blackened atmosphere and relentlessly blasphemous themes, the band has established itself as one of the most uncompromising acts to emerge from the Polish extreme metal underground.

The band was founded by drummer Zbigniew “Inferno” Promiński, vocalist/guitarist Bartłomiej “Bruno” Waruszewski and guitarist Andrzej “D.” Zdrojewski. Inferno, who would become internationally known through his work with Behemoth, remains the sole original member of Azarath. The band's name was inspired by the Damnation song “Azarath (Watching in Darkness)”.

Azarath made their first appearance with the Traitors demo in 1998, followed by Destroy Yourself – Promo 2000 two years later. Guitarist Bartłomiej “Bart” Szudek joined the band in 2000, helping establish a line-up that would take Azarath into their first full-length recording.

Their debut album, Demon Seed, was recorded at Hertz Studio and released through Pagan Records in 2001. The album introduced Azarath's savage approach to death metal: extremely fast drumming, dense and violent riffing, hostile vocals and a sinister atmosphere rooted in Satanic and anti-Christian imagery. The record attracted considerable attention in the Polish underground and resulted in the band joining Vader on the Polish dates of the Revelations Tour in 2002.

The second album, Infernal Blasting, followed in 2003. Recorded at Hendrix Studio, it continued the relentless direction of the debut while further developing the band's combination of traditional death metal aggression and darker black metal elements. Following the recording, D. departed and was replaced by Yattering guitarist Mariusz “Thrufel” Domaradzki.

Azarath returned in 2006 with Diabolic Impious Evil. Recorded between Hendrix Studio and Hertz Studio, the album pushed the band's sound toward an even more intense and controlled form of extreme death metal. Its release was followed by further touring, including appearances alongside Vader, Vesania and Trauma during the Blitzkrieg 4 tour.

The fourth full-length, Praise the Beast, appeared in 2009 through Agonia Records. By this point Azarath had developed a distinctive identity built around Inferno's devastating blast beats, chaotic yet precise guitar work and an increasingly oppressive and ritualistic atmosphere. Shortly afterwards, longtime vocalist and bassist Bruno left the band, bringing an important early chapter of Azarath's history to an end.

Marek “Necrosodom” Lechowski subsequently joined as vocalist and initially bassist, later moving to guitar. Piotr “Peter” Ostrowski of Lost Soul took over bass duties. This incarnation recorded Blasphemers' Maledictions, released in 2011 through Witching Hour Productions. The album presented a darker and more spiritually oriented interpretation of Azarath's established blasphemous death metal style and was preceded by the Holy Possession EP.

Following several years without a new studio album, Azarath returned to Agonia Records for In Extremis in 2017. The album marked another period of transition, with Necrosodom leaving the group and Marcin “Skullripper” Sienkiel of Embrional joining on vocals and guitar. Alongside Inferno, Bart and Peter, Skullripper helped establish a new and stable incarnation of the band.

This line-up recorded Azarath's seventh full-length album, Saint Desecration, released by Agonia Records in 2020. The record maintained the band's uncompromising foundation of furious death metal while combining technical precision with sinister melodies and an increasingly monumental atmosphere. The track “Beyond the Gates of Burning Ghats” also became the subject of Azarath's first official music video.

After a six-year gap between albums, Azarath announced their eighth studio record, Scorn Eternal, in August 2026. Recorded at Sound of Records between December 2025 and May 2026 and mixed at Wieloślad Studio in June 2026, the album is scheduled for release through Agonia Records on November 20, 2026. The band has described the material as retaining their trademark possessed riffs and precision blast beats while introducing a more epic dimension and elements not previously heard in their music.

More than twenty-five years after their formation, Azarath remain one of Poland's most enduring extreme death metal bands. With Inferno's unmistakable drumming at its core and a line-up currently consisting of Inferno, Bart, Peter and Skullripper, the band continues to pursue an intensely violent, dark and blasphemous interpretation of death metal without softening the approach that has defined them since their earliest recordings.
