Finnish doom / heavy metal legends CARDINALS FOLLY have released a music video for the title track of their upcoming seventh full-length album "Let the Posers Fall!".
Check it out below:
Marking a bold new chapter with the debut of a new guitarist, the album showcases a powerful shift toward traditional, riff-driven heavy metal songwriting while retaining the band's signature heavy footprint. Lyrically, “Let the Posers Fall!” delves deep into the macabre, drawing grim inspiration from notorious serial killers ("I Am The Zodiac"), the cosmic horror literature of H.P. Lovecraft ("Providence"), and vintage cult horror/exploitation cinema ("New York Ripper", “Hitch-Hike").
The band issued the following defiant statement regarding the upcoming release: "In a world where trends come and go and authenticity is drowning in depravity, CARDINALS FOLLY still rides the cultist highway, declaring the downfall of posers until the end. The Stallions Are Burning!"

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

Cardinals Folly is a traditional doom/heavy metal band from Helsinki, Finland. The group was originally formed in 2004 under the name The Coven, before adopting the name Cardinals Folly in 2007. The new name was inspired by British author Dennis Wheatley’s Duc de Richleau novels, fitting well with the band’s fascination with occultism, horror and dark literature.
Musically, Cardinals Folly is firmly rooted in traditional doom metal, while also drawing heavily from classic heavy metal and the darker side of 1970s and 1980s hard rock. Slow, crushing doom riffs are combined with more energetic heavy metal passages and a deliberately raw, old-school approach. Their sound follows the tradition established by bands such as Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Bedemon and Count Raven rather than the more extreme forms of modern doom metal.
Following the name change, Cardinals Folly released the EP *Heretic's Hangover* in 2008, followed by *Orthodox Faces* in 2009. Both releases appeared in limited quantities and helped establish the band within the underground doom metal scene. Material from this early period was later collected on the 2013 compilation *Strange Conflicts of the Past*.
The band's debut full-length album, *Such Power Is Dangerous!*, arrived in 2011. It was followed by *Our Cult Continues!* in 2014, *Holocaust of Ecstasy & Freedom* in 2016 and *Deranged Pagan Sons* in 2017. Across these releases, Cardinals Folly continued to develop its distinctive mixture of traditional doom, heavy metal and a raw underground aesthetic. Lyrically, the band has frequently explored occultism, Satanism, mythology, horror culture and pulp literature, often accompanied by a characteristic streak of dark humour.
In 2020, Cardinals Folly released their fifth full-length album, *Defying the Righteous Way*. The band has also maintained close ties with the international doom underground through several split releases, including *Cardinals Folly / Lucifer's Fall* in 2019 and *Possessed in the Ritual Grove* in 2022.
The year 2023 proved particularly productive. Cardinals Folly issued the compilations *Heretic's Hangover & Orthodox Faces* and *This Is No Church!*, as well as their sixth studio album, *Live by the Sword*. The latter continued the band's commitment to traditional doom while emphasizing its increasingly prominent classic heavy metal influences.
Throughout numerous lineup changes, bassist and vocalist Mikko "Count Karnstein" Kääriäinen has remained the central figure and driving force behind Cardinals Folly since the adoption of the band's current name. Guitarist Tuomo "Tumppi/Cosmic Doom" Kosonen joined in 2024, while Rami Moilanen joined on drums in 2026.
In 2026, Cardinals Folly entered another chapter of their career by joining Cruz del Sur Music. Their seventh full-length album, *Let the Posers Fall!*, is scheduled for release on October 9, 2026. The album pushes the band's sound further toward riff-driven traditional heavy metal without abandoning its doom metal foundation. Its lyrical themes remain unmistakably Cardinals Folly, drawing inspiration from serial killers, H. P. Lovecraft, classic horror and exploitation cinema.
After nearly two decades under the Cardinals Folly name, the band remains devoted to an uncompromising and deeply traditional form of Finnish doom metal. Heavy riffs, classic metal influences, occult atmosphere and an enduring allegiance to the underground continue to define a band that has steadfastly followed its own path.
