Norwegian death metal force CELESTIAL SCOURGE are set to return with their second full-length album, "Exomia", due for release later this year via Time To Kill Records. Following their 2025 debut "Observers of the Inevitable", the band continues the science-fiction inspired concept introduced on their first record, expanding its narrative universe through a new and darker chapter.
With "Exomia", CELESTIAL SCOURGE refine the formula established on their debut, delivering a more aggressive and direct take on their technical death metal foundations. The new album places greater emphasis on the impact of the individual songs, combining devastating intensity with a stronger focus on memorable riffs and dynamic structures. While the band’s technical approach remains a key element of their identity, the compositions flow with increased immediacy, balancing complexity and accessibility without sacrificing heaviness.
CELESTIAL SCOURGE comment:
"'Exomia' is the continuation of the story from the first album, but this time it’s more dense and grimmer than ever before. We follow the humans' evacuation from planet Earth to their new home, a planet that looks to be deserted and empty from afar. This turns out to be far from the truth as soon as they land."

Tracklist:
1. Welcoming the Wretched
2. Foreseen Systematic Malfunctions
3. The Merciless Conflagration
4. Enshrined in Putrefying Flesh
5. Nebulous Malediction
6. Spherical Aberrations (feat. Devin Swank of Sanguisugabogg)
7. Colossal Maleficent Solar Winds
8. Exomia I
9. Exomia II (The Evacuation)
The album features additional vocals on "Spherical Aberrations" by Devin Swank (Sanguisugabogg). The drums were recorded at Bridge Burner Recording and engineered by Ørjan Kristoffersen, while the album was recorded by Sindre & Hansi. Mixing and mastering were handled by Stefano Morabito at 16th Cellar Studio, with artwork and layout created by César Eidrian.
Further details about "Exomia", including the official release date and the first single, will be revealed soon.
Formed in 2021 by bassist Stian Gundersen, CELESTIAL SCOURGE quickly established themselves as one of the most promising names in the Norwegian extreme metal scene. Combining technical precision, crushing brutality and a fascination for the mysteries of deep space, the band delivers a modern death metal assault built on powerful riffs, complex arrangements and a relentless sense of momentum.
The group features musicians with experience in acclaimed underground acts such as Blood Red Throne, Deception, Ruun, Vorbid and Todesking, bringing together a wide range of influences and backgrounds. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Suffocation, Deeds of Flesh, The Faceless, The Zenith Passage and Cattle Decapitation, CELESTIAL SCOURGE merge the physical impact of classic brutal death metal with a contemporary approach to songwriting and atmosphere.
After introducing their cosmic narrative with debut album "Observers of the Inevitable", the band returns with "Exomia", a release that expands their vision both conceptually and musically. Sharper, heavier and more focused, the album represents a further step in the evolution of a band determined to explore the outer limits of extreme metal.

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

Celestial Scourge is a Norwegian brutal/technical death metal band formed in 2021 by bassist Stian Gundersen. Bringing together musicians with experience from several corners of the Norwegian extreme metal scene, the band quickly established a sound built around uncompromising brutality, intricate technical riffing, relentless drumming and crushing, guttural vocals.
Gundersen assembled Celestial Scourge during the pandemic, initially working alongside vocalist Eirik Waadeland and drummer Kristoffer Lunden. The band's early material demonstrated an ambition to combine the precision and complexity of technical death metal with the sheer physical weight of brutal death metal and slam. Rather than allowing technicality to dominate the songwriting, Celestial Scourge use it as another weapon, moving between rapid-fire riffing, rhythmic complexity and massive breakdowns.
Their first official release was the single Elliptical Orbit in 2022, providing an early glimpse of what would become the band's characteristic cosmic take on brutal technical death metal. The following year Celestial Scourge released their debut EP, Dimensions Unfurled, through Italian label Time To Kill Records. The five-track EP expanded considerably on the band's initial vision, combining technical aggression with punishing grooves and an atmosphere inspired by the vastness and hostility of space.
Released on January 20th, 2023, Dimensions Unfurled featured Waadeland on vocals, Gundersen on bass and Lunden on drums, with Sanjay Kumar contributing session guitars. The material was written by Gundersen, while Waadeland handled the lyrics. Mixed and mastered by Stefano Morabito at 16th Cellar Studio in Rome, the EP presented Celestial Scourge as a band equally interested in precision and sheer sonic punishment.
Following the EP, the line-up developed into a five-piece with guitarists Hans Jakob Bjørheim and Sindre Wathne Johnsen joining Gundersen, Lunden and Waadeland. Between them, the musicians have connections to bands including Blood Red Throne, Deception, Ruun, Arvas, Glimt, You Suffer and others, giving Celestial Scourge a line-up deeply rooted in Norway's extreme metal underground.
The band continued developing its sound through new material, including Vessels in 2024, before entering the next major phase of its career with its first full-length album. Observers of the Inevitable was released through Time To Kill Records on February 28th, 2025.
On Observers of the Inevitable, Celestial Scourge pushed the foundations established on Dimensions Unfurled into a broader and more fully developed form. The album retained the band's combination of brutal death metal weight and technical precision while further exploring dissonant riffing, violent rhythmic shifts, blast-driven passages and devastating slower sections. The cosmic atmosphere of their earlier work remained an important part of their identity, giving the music an ominous sense of scale alongside its physical brutality.
Celestial Scourge occupy a particularly vicious corner of the modern Norwegian death metal scene. Their music draws upon the extremity of brutal death metal without abandoning detailed musicianship and technical songwriting, balancing speed and complexity against grooves and breakdowns designed for maximum impact. The result is a dense and relentlessly aggressive form of death metal that remains recognisable as part of the genre's traditions while pushing firmly toward its more technical and brutal extremes.
With Dimensions Unfurled establishing the foundation and Observers of the Inevitable demonstrating what the band could accomplish over a full-length release, Celestial Scourge have emerged as one of the notable newer names in Norway's brutal and technical death metal underground.
