Coiled Around Thy Spine is an Italian melodic death metal band formed in Turin, Italy, in 2017. The band emerged with the ambition of blending the aggression and intensity of classic death metal with the atmosphere and melody of Scandinavian melodic death metal, creating a sound that is both powerful and emotionally charged.
Drawing inspiration from bands such as Dark Tranquillity, Insomnium, and Children of Bodom, Coiled Around Thy Spine combines crushing riffs, dynamic drumming, melodic lead guitars, and expressive vocals. Their music often balances darkness and melody, moving between aggressive passages and more atmospheric, introspective moments.
The band made its first major mark with the release of their debut full-length album, Shades (2018), which introduced listeners to their emotionally driven songwriting and melodic yet heavy approach. The album helped establish them within the Italian underground metal scene.
In 2021, Coiled Around Thy Spine released their second album, From the Ashes, further refining their sound with stronger production, more mature compositions, and deeper emotional weight. The record showcased the band’s evolution, emphasizing both technical precision and memorable melodic structures.
Following the album releases, the band continued to stay active with a series of singles and smaller releases, including “Soul Symmetry,” “Where Nothing Remains,” “The Silent Fall,” and “Self-Condemned.” These later works demonstrated a continued progression toward a more polished and modern melodic death metal sound while retaining the raw intensity that defined their earlier material.
