After seven years and two albums, British heavy metal band Kaleb rebranded themselves with the infinitely more dynamic name of Dethonator, beginning an exciting new chapter in their story. Releasing their debut album in 2010, Dethonator have gone on to carve out a prominent place for themselves in the UK metal scene with their classic heavy metal sound - epic, anthemic and energized! Their exhilarating live performances have seen them share the stage with everyone from metal legends like UFO and Elixir to an array of bands from across the metal spectrum, including Wytch Hazel, Onslaught, Orden Ogan and even the renowned practitioners of blackened extremity Hecate Enthroned and A Forest Of Stars. No one can resist the unadulterated metal power of Dethonator! Their four albums to date have garnered a rich return of critical acclaim, with last release, Race Against The Sun: Part Two, a superb metallic interpretation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, being awarded an 'Almost Perfect' rating by Metal Temple, the respected zine declaring it to be 'a highly satisfying, complete album'. It's now been six years since that vampiric epic, but at long last Dethonator have returned and are set to unveil their most ambitious album yet! A firm stand against the polluting force of AI, a celebration of human creativity and imagination…it's time to enter The Last Realm Of Magic!
Opening with glorious bombast and spirit stirring majesty The Last Realm Of Magic's title track begins this grand adventure. With its crisp, galloping riffs, sublime guitar melodies and vocals that infuse the narrative with passion and drama this is music that will speak to the hearts of those for whom true heavy metal is a nirvana that can never be surpassed. The Last Realm Of Magic grows from its triumphant opening gambit, ensnaring with its gleaming hooks and instantly addictive choruses, enthralling with its incredible atmosphere and vivid storytelling. 'Motor Heart' is infused with positivity and energy, a beacon of light in a world of shadows, while 'Storm Chaser' hits hard with its muscular riffs and aggressive edge. Incredibly the album just seems to get better as it charges on, with the wonderfully emotive 'Elisa' a tremendous showcase for Tris Lineker's vocals as it moves from a beautiful, acoustic beginning through passages of brooding power to a final full scale metal attack. And then we reach the album's climax, the awesome epic that is 'Masque Of The Red Death', a multi-faceted presentation of Edgar Allan Poe's tale of plague and terror. Progressive riffs and courtly music, creeping darkness and gothic horror, melodious leads and jagged rhythms - they all combine to create a breathtaking conclusion to an album of vibrant, evocative, dream weaving metal.
In keeping with the values that informed the writing of The Last Realm Of Magic, the album was recorded as traditionally and authentically as possible - no autotune for the vocal recordings, guitar tones captured with valve amps and cabinets, spontaneous moments of improvisation kept in the final mix - this is real music, this is real heavy metal! Complete with artwork created by digital illustrator Joe Sharpe, The Last Realm Of Magic will be released via the Dethonator Bandcamp page on October 2nd and through The Orchard (Sony Music) on November 27th. Dethonator will celebrate the release of The Last Realm Of Magic with a London show at Camden Town's Devonshire Arms on October 3rd, with support from Soldiers Of Rage and Karnivrous. Be there, standing with them, if you can.

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

Dethonator are a melodic heavy/thrash metal band based in London, England, whose history stretches back to 2002. Originally formed in the East Midlands under the name Kaleb, the group spent several years developing their sound before adopting the Dethonator name in 2009. Their earliest roots can be traced to brothers Adz and Tris Lineker, who have remained central figures throughout the band's history.
Musically, Dethonator combine traditional British heavy metal with thrash, progressive and power metal influences, placing a strong emphasis on melody, powerful riffing and classic metal songwriting. While their music carries clear echoes of bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Metallica, Dethonator have deliberately avoided becoming a purely retro-minded traditional metal act. Instead, they draw upon several decades of heavy metal and incorporate both old-school and more contemporary elements into their sound.
The band released its self-titled debut album in 2010, establishing the melodic and muscular heavy/thrash metal style that would become their trademark. This was followed by Return to Damnation in 2013 and the Monuments to Dead Gods EP in 2014. The debut was later reissued through German label Killer Metal Records in 2017.
During the band's early years as Dethonator, James Burton handled lead vocals, but following his departure in 2012 guitarist Tris Lineker assumed the role of lead vocalist. Together with bassist and vocalist Adz Lineker and guitarist Henry Brooks, he formed the core of the band for much of the following decade. Drummer Johnny Mo joined in 2015, replacing original Dethonator drummer Tommy C.
Dethonator expanded their ambitions considerably with the two-part Race Against the Sun project. Race Against the Sun: Part One appeared in 2019, presenting a more expansive mixture of melodic heavy metal, thrash and progressive elements. The second installment, Race Against the Sun: Part Two, followed in 2020. Conceived as a concept album inspired by Bram Stoker's Dracula, the record further demonstrated the band's interest in narrative songwriting and more ambitious compositions without abandoning their traditional heavy metal foundations.
Another significant lineup change occurred in 2021 when longtime guitarist Henry Brooks departed after more than a decade with Dethonator. He was replaced by Matt Brock, who had previously been involved with the band's predecessor Kaleb.
Having evolved from their East Midlands beginnings into a London-based band, Dethonator have spent more than two decades operating within the British underground when their years as Kaleb are included. Their combination of melodic heavy metal, thrash and progressive influences gives them a sound rooted firmly in the traditions of British metal while remaining distinct from the straightforward revivalist approach of many traditional metal bands.
