After 5 years of silence and meticulous work Dungeon Serpent returns with their second album “Lamentations of the Shadowkingdoms” set for release on Oct 30.
Having already constructed a standout style of death metal with “World of Sorrows” sharply focused upon fusing morbid and romantic strains of extreme metal from before metal’s turn-of-the-century involution, Dungeon Serpent now boldly looks to a future of their own creation and stretches their limbs to new horizons, breathing new life into the ruined world presented in the first album. Thus this new album is a work of grand ambition and unbowed passion, not content to merely fine-tune and repeat what has already been done in a bygone age.
Yet with this expansion “Lamentations of the Shadowkingdoms” presents a work united as a great whole. Each of the 6 pieces are tonally distinct but thematically bound and flow into a monolithic whole. The vision is executed with greater clarity, enhanced skill, focus and the addition of new members to the horde, such as drummer Bhraonáin (Fake Dust). The music is now played with a speed and ferocity well beyond what was achieved on the first album, and the technique of the core instrumentation is more eclectic, drawing more freely from black metal, brutal death metal, and even as far as jazz and grind, as well as a sharper mix courtesy of Subterranean Watchtower Studios that allows elements such as agile basslines to be heard with much more clarity. The music cleanly flows between this ferocity and an almost cosmic sense of orchestral grandiosity, owing to the expanded instrumentation within the songs, chiefly mystical keyboards in the Hellenic tradition and violins provided by string player and contemporary composer Anju Singh (The Nausea), as well as many other adventurous atmospheric and textural flourishes.

Tracklist:
1. A Wanderer’s Dirge/Ashes From the Temple
2. Festering Malediction (The Fifth Kingdom)
3. Rainland’s Elegy (The Lamentations of the Shadowkingdoms)
4. Garden of Grotesque Forms (Act I. Lineage of Failure, Act II. Dreamlike Odyssey)
5. Tranquil Sleep of the Dead, Endless Seas Aflame
6. Cast Through (Outro)
“Lamentations of the Shadowkingdoms” is a work that expresses both the untempered rawness and ferocity but also the latent musical potential within the truest essence of death metal in one breath, realized and entwined as extensions of one and the same principle.

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

Dungeon Serpent is a melodic death metal band from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The project was originally formed by Arawn in 2018 under the name Necrotizing Fasciitis before adopting the Dungeon Serpent name in 2019. What initially began as essentially a one-man project gradually developed into a full band.
Musically, Dungeon Serpent approaches melodic death metal from a distinctly old-school death metal perspective. Rather than emphasizing the polished and highly accessible side commonly associated with the genre, the band combines strong melodic guitar work with blasting drums, harsh low vocals and a rawer traditional death metal foundation. Their music draws heavily upon the atmosphere and melodic sensibilities of extreme metal from the 1990s, while themes include esotericism, fantasy, magic, history, personal subjects and decay.
Dungeon Serpent first appeared with the two-track Promo demo in December 2020. At this stage Arawn was responsible for everything, and both tracks, “Immortal Incubation” and “Decay”, would subsequently appear on the band's debut album.
The debut full-length, World of Sorrows, was released digitally in July 2021. Written during 2020 and recorded during the opening months of 2021, the album featured Arawn handling vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards and drum programming, with additional drum programming and keyboards supplied by J. Hook. The album was later issued in several physical editions through labels including Nameless Grave Records and Desert Wastelands Productions.
World of Sorrows established the band's particular interpretation of melodic death metal across five lengthy compositions, combining memorable guitar melodies with a considerably more aggressive and traditional death metal attack. The album also displayed Dungeon Serpent's interest in darker, fantastical and decaying imagery, reflected both in the music and its artwork; the original cover uses Thomas Cole's painting The Course of Empire: Desolation.
Dungeon Serpent subsequently developed from Arawn's solo-oriented project into a functioning band. Bassist Horrifier joined in 2021, rhythm guitarist Repenter became a full member in 2022, and drummer Bhraonáin joined in 2023 following the departure of drummer Tamehana. An additional keyboard player joined in 2025.
Further demo material followed with Promo '22 in 2022 and Promo '20 in 2023. The latter expanded upon the band's earlier material with recordings featuring the full lineup. Dungeon Serpent also released a re-recorded version of “Necroscope” in 2023, although this was issued as a single and is therefore omitted from the discography below.
In November 2025, Dungeon Serpent appeared alongside American death metal band Sacrilegion on the split release Spectral Obsidian. Dungeon Serpent contributed four tracks, recorded with Arawn, Repenter, Horrifier and Tamehana.
During 2026 the band entered another phase of activity. The demo Thy Fictional Throne appeared during the year, while Dungeon Serpent also prepared its long-awaited second full-length album, Lamentations of the Shadowkingdoms. The album represents the band's first full-length release in five years and expands upon the musical world established by World of Sorrows, with the band describing the material as an attempt to push its established death metal style toward new territory.
Lamentations of the Shadowkingdoms is scheduled for release on October 30, 2026. The six-track album features Arawn on vocals, guitars, keyboards and most of the bass, with Bhraonáin on drums and several guest musicians contributing bass, violin and clean vocals.
