You are far from home and the darkness seems to stretch into forever. You have wandered deep into the desert night, dust at your feet and a thousand times a thousand stars above your head - scattered across the black velvet sky like ice shards, diamonds, doorways, eyes… The air is cold, bitter and sharp, biting at your lungs with each trembling breath, but there is a fire up ahead, flames dancing in the cruel wind. A voice seems to whisper to you from that oasis of warmth and light…an invitation, a temptation, a command…sensuous, poisonous, irresistible. And you are so very far from home…

Spawned beneath the blistering desert sun in Tucson, Arizona in 2020, Funeral Witchery are purveyors of fierce, unforgiving black metal. Everything about their music, their lyrics, their ideology is utterly uncompromising and intensely focussed. They are conjurers of nightmares and dedicated disciples of the dark, their creed a simple one - 'Death will take you. Hell will keep you.' After four independently released singles, the band have now joined the select ranks of InViMa Records for the release of their first full length album…Beyond The Light.

 

 

The power builds steadily as opening track, 'Sheol' is unveiled, a summoning of atmosphere, an invocation of ancient, primal darkness - and then all hell is unleashed, a savage vocal howling above a cavalcade of chaos. An impenetrable cloak of night descends with this initial onslaught and never lifts until the nightmare of Beyond The Light has finally passed. The 'Wolfqueen' tempts you into madness, a violent force rampaging through a landscape of haunting, desolate beauty, while 'I Am The Tyrant' casts you to your knees beneath its baleful gaze in a display of ironclad domination; riffs and drumbeats falling like hammer blows as the track thunders forwards with unstoppable force. 'Nun Fucker' is as direct, unflinching and blasphemous as its title suggests, steeped in wickedness and drowning in sin, and the rabid violence of 'Beast Reich Occupation', with its swirling solo like a kaleidoscope of razors, ensures that no-one leaves this hell ride unscathed or unscarred. The final proclamation of doom, the last rites for the light come with 'Nemesis Divinus', weighty and imperious, a triumphant march into the night leaving ravaged souls weeping in its wake. With Beyond The Light Funeral Witchery have delivered a fearsome first strike of unadulterated black metal might.
