In the 80s there were some Austrian bands like NO BROS, SPEED LIMIT and GALLOWS POLE who played classic melodic Heavy Metal, but they couldn’t really compete with the German bands. So, many people never knew that e.g. GALLOWS POLE released some really popular songs on their albums “In Rock We Trust” (1981) and “We Wanna Come Home” (1989).
These songs can make every metallic dream come true even today.
Pure Rock Records released the bands album “Waiting For the Mothership” two years ago, and now they are proud to present GALLOWS POLE’s next album “And Time Stood Still”. On this album you will find all the typical trademarks of the quintet: melodic Hard Rock, which is very near Heavy Metal, meets the unique and authentic, powerful vocals of Alois Binder. This is topped by a very suitable, rather basic production. In this bargain are also some very catchy songs, e.g.
“Summer Rain” (as single edit version) or the very straight “Rock This Town”. With “And Time Stood Still” GALLOWS POLE will give proof to every critic that they still rock after 30 years of band history!

GALLOWS POLE was formed back in 1977 in Vienna, Austria. The band members were Alois Martin Binder (vocals, guitars), Reinhard Schebiak (drums) and Walter Novacek (bass). In 1979 the band released their first single “Shut up/Destiny” under the band name ANGELINA. The single was number one in the Austrian charts. Then the band decided to change their name, and so GALLOWS POLE was born.
In 1980 the band went to England to record their first full length album “In Rock We Trust” and signed a deal with CBS (Sony) Records. From the beginning, the album was a huge success and is still a cult-record. It was released all across Europe. To promote the album in the United States, the band went to Los Angeles. GALLOWS POLE signed a record deal with AZRA Records in the States and they released the album “In Rock We Trust” as a picture disc. It was sold out immediately and is a collectors’ item since then.
GALLOWS POLE played a lot of gigs in the States and a few of those rare live recordings can be listened to on the albums “We Wanna Come Home” (re-release, KARTHAGO RECORDS) and “We Wanna Come Home” remasters (BGG-ENTERTAINMENT).
In 1985 the band again went to England to record their second album “We Wanna Come Home”. During these recording sessions the drummer became ill and the recording had to be stopped. The band returned to England two years later to continue the recordings with John Lingwood, the drummer of MANFRED MANN. In 1989 the record was released, but GALLOWS POLE’s drummer unfortunately died. The band decided to stop releasing albums for a while, because there was no other drummer, who was good enough, and John was on tour this time.
In 1992, because of the big demand, GALLOWS POLE released a sampler also called “In Rock We Trust”, including a few songs from “We Wanna Come Home” and the hit-single “Summerrain”. Then Walter Novacek left the band and Alois Martin Binder continued alone. During this time the album “The Smile of the Dolphins” (BGG-Entertainment) was produced, which sounds quite different from the other records; it was released in 1998.
Around this time, Alois Martin Binder got in touch with Stefan Riermaier from Karthago Records, who knew the band from the early days. But it took anothersix years (though the demand for GALLOWS POLE albums never stopped) until Karthago Records and GALLOWS POLE released the album “We Wanna Come Home” again in 2006. Alois Martin Binder had found new musicians by this time: Lubi Ivic (bass) and Stefan Winkler (drums). The old-time member Günther Steiner is still in the band and plays the keys. In 2007 the album “Gallows Pole IV” was recorded and is available as download all over the world and will be released as CD pretty soon. In 2008 the band started the recordings for the album “Revolution”, which was released on 15 January 2010 by Karthago Records. It seems like it's the best album GALLOWS POLE ever recorded. And maybe “Revolution” will pretty soon also be a cult-album, just as “In Rock We Trust” was before.
In 2011 GALLOWS POLE released, together with Pure Rock Records, their brand new album "Waiting for the Mothership". It is a concept album and will be another milestone in the band’s history.
