Heavens Edge is an American hard rock band formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1987. Emerging during the final years of the 1980s hard rock boom, the band quickly established itself as one of the most promising acts on the Philadelphia club circuit, combining melodic hooks, powerful vocals and flashy guitar work with the polished, arena-ready sound that defined much of the era.

The original line-up consisted of vocalist Mark Evans, guitarists Reggie Wu and Steven Parry, bassist George “G.G.” Guidotti, and drummer David Rath. The band rapidly built a strong regional following, regularly performing at venues such as the Empire Rock Club, The Galaxy and The Trocadero in Philadelphia, as well as Hammerjacks in Baltimore and the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. Their growing reputation also attracted attention outside the United States, with coverage appearing in European and Japanese metal publications.

After recording a well-received demo, Heavens Edge attracted the attention of several major labels and eventually signed with Columbia Records. Their self-titled debut album, Heavens Edge, was released in 1990 and produced by renowned producer Neil Kernon, whose credits included work with bands such as Dokken and Queensrÿche. Featuring tracks including “Skin to Skin,” “Play Dirty,” “Find Another Way” and “Can’t Catch Me,” the album showcased the band's combination of melodic hard rock, heavy guitar riffs and memorable choruses. It reached No. 141 on the Billboard 200, while “Skin to Skin” became one of the band's best-known songs.

Despite the quality of the album and the band's considerable live following, Heavens Edge failed to achieve the commercial breakthrough that many had expected. Their career was also marked by a frightening incident when bassist G.G. Guidotti was shot in the abdomen during a disturbance involving a patron at the Empire Rock Club. Guidotti survived and eventually returned to the band.

Following their departure from Columbia, Heavens Edge secured a deal with Capitol Records and began working on what was intended to become their second album, once again with Neil Kernon. However, the musical climate was changing dramatically. By the early 1990s, grunge and alternative rock were rapidly replacing melodic hard rock and glam metal in the priorities of major record labels. The planned album was ultimately shelved and the band gradually came to a halt.

Some members subsequently became involved with a project called American Pie, while the unreleased Heavens Edge material remained largely unheard for several years.

In 1998, Heavens Edge resurfaced when the German label MTM Music released Some Other Place, Some Other Time. Consisting largely of previously unreleased recordings and material originating from the band's early-1990s sessions, the album finally gave fans the opportunity to hear songs that had originally been intended to continue the band's career after their Columbia debut. Different editions of the record subsequently appeared, including an expanded American release.

The original members eventually reunited, with a particularly important chapter beginning in 2013, when Heavens Edge performed an official reunion show at the Firefest festival in Nottingham, England. The enthusiastic reception encouraged the band to continue. Further appearances followed at events including the Monsters of Rock Cruise, Melodic Rock Festival and M3 Rock Festival, along with successful hometown performances in Philadelphia.

Tragedy struck the band in 2019 when original bassist George “G.G.” Guidotti was diagnosed with lung cancer. He passed away in August of that year. His death understandably cast doubt over the future of Heavens Edge, and for a time the remaining members believed that continuing without him would not be possible.

Eventually, bassist Jaron Gulino, known from bands including Mach22 and Tantric, began working with the group. His chemistry with the surviving members helped convince them that Heavens Edge could continue while respecting Guidotti's legacy. Gulino subsequently became an official member of the band.

A major new chapter began in 2022 when Heavens Edge signed a worldwide recording agreement with Frontiers Music Srl. On May 12, 2023, the band released Get It Right, their first full studio album in approximately twenty-five years. Featuring Mark Evans, Reggie Wu, Steven Parry and David Rath alongside Jaron Gulino, the record demonstrated that the band's trademark melodic hard rock sound remained firmly intact.

Songs such as “Had Enough,” “Gone Gone Gone,” “Nothing Left But Goodbye” and “What Could've Been” combined the band's classic style with a modern production, effectively reconnecting Heavens Edge with the sound and attitude that had first earned them their reputation more than three decades earlier.

Although Heavens Edge never achieved the massive commercial success enjoyed by some of their contemporaries, the band has developed a lasting cult following among fans of late-'80s and early-'90s American hard rock. Their history is also a classic example of unfortunate timing: a highly regarded band reaching major-label level just as the musical landscape was about to change dramatically.

Decades after their debut, however, Heavens Edge proved that their story was far from over. With Get It Right and their renewed live activity, the Philadelphia veterans successfully transformed what could have remained a short-lived chapter of the early-'90s hard rock scene into a career spanning several decades.
