Italian tech-death masters Hour Of Penance have officially begun recording their tenth studio album & follow-up to “Devotion” from 2024. The recordings are taking place at Bloom Recording Studio with producer & bass player Marco Mastrobuono.
Hour Of Penance comments: "With immense pleasure we have finally walked through the door of the Bloom Recording Studio once again, the same studio where we've recorded our last 2 albums (Misotheism and Devotion) with our bass player - gear nerd - producer Marco Mastrobuono behind the mixing desk. Our drummer Giacomo Torti have just finished tracking the drums, we will share some footage of the recordings on our socials, so stay tuned for more. The recording process will take a while but we're aiming to have a final version of the album by the end of the summer."
Established on the verge of the millenium in Rome, the band has extended its partnership with Agonia Records in December 2025. The title and release date of the new album remain unannounced.

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

Formed in Rome, Italy, in 1999, Hour of Penance has established itself as one of the leading forces in technical and brutal death metal. Combining relentless speed, razor-sharp precision, and crushing brutality, the band has spent more than two decades refining a sound that seamlessly blends complex musicianship with uncompromising aggression.
The band was founded by guitarist Giulio Moschini and bassist Paolo Pieri, initially performing a raw and straightforward form of brutal death metal inspired by pioneers such as Suffocation, Nile, Morbid Angel, and Hate Eternal. Their early recordings quickly gained attention within the underground scene, leading to the release of their debut album Disturbance in 2003. While the album showcased the band's technical ambitions, it was only the beginning of their evolution.
With Pageantry for Martyrs (2005), Hour of Penance sharpened both their songwriting and instrumental precision, attracting a growing international audience. Their breakthrough came with The Vile Conception (2008), released through Unique Leader Records. The album received widespread praise for its blistering speed, intricate guitar work, and relentless drumming, firmly establishing the Italians among the elite of modern brutal death metal.
The following albums, Paradogma (2010), Sedition (2012), and Regicide (2014), further expanded the band's reputation. These releases featured increasingly sophisticated compositions while maintaining the savage intensity that had become their trademark. During this period, Hour of Penance also toured extensively across Europe, North America, Asia, and South America, sharing stages with many of the genre's most respected acts.
Their later works, including Cast the First Stone (2017), Misotheism (2019), and Devotion (2024), demonstrate a band that continues to evolve without sacrificing its identity. While incorporating darker atmospheres, stronger melodic undercurrents, and increasingly dynamic arrangements, Hour of Penance has remained faithful to its core philosophy of uncompromising extremity and technical excellence.
Lyrically, the band explores themes such as war, religion, human corruption, oppression, political decay, and the darker aspects of civilization. Rather than relying on traditional horror imagery, their lyrics often examine real-world conflicts and the destructive tendencies of humanity through a philosophical and critical perspective.
Today, Hour of Penance stands among Italy's most influential extreme metal bands. Their consistency, exceptional musicianship, and relentless commitment to pushing the boundaries of technical death metal have earned them a respected place within the global extreme metal community, inspiring countless newer bands while continuing to deliver some of the genre's most devastating and technically accomplished releases.
