Liv Kristine has joined MIDNATTSOL as their official second singer - right next to her very talented sister Carmen Elise Espenæs. This truly is full sister power!
The band is extremely excited about the news:
“Hey folks,
Like we promised here is the news for you:
LIV KRISTINE IS NOW AN OFFICAL SECOND SINGER IN MIDNATTSOL!! Some time ago we discussed with Liv that she would support us on our upcoming album as a special guest. Working together, we found out that not only the result is awesome - we also have a lot of fun together. The logical consequence was that we pick up Liv as a permanent member of the band. So she is now the official second singer in Midnattsol.
We have already recorded Liv as the second voice on some songs for the next album. Liv will also have her own parts in some songs, so these songs will be more like a duet of the two sisters. We think the results will blow you away.
As Liv is now a permanent band member we plan to play upcoming concerts together with her.
We are very happy and it means a lot to us to have such an amazing singer and fantastic person in our Midnattsol family.”
The band released a first appetizer in form of the track snippet “Purple Sky”:
MIDNATTSOL released their promising debut album “Where Twilight Dwells” back in 2005. The band quickly gained fans around the Gothic, Metal & Rock scene alike and played numerous shows and summer festivals like Summer Breeze, Wave Gotik Treffen, Mera Luna, as well as support of IN EXTREMO. Their highly anticipated second studio album “Nordlys” was released in 2008, followed up by their latest album “The Metamorphosis Melody” in 2011. After that the band decided to take a creative break, but now you can be sure that MIDNATTSOL are fully back and ready more exciting news to come!
Keep your eyes and ears open!

BIOGRAPHY
THE METAMORPHOSIS MELODY could be the sound of melting glaciers being transformed. It could be the sound of a creature on its way to another form. But it is the title of the brand new album of the female-fronted Nordic folk metal band MIDNATTSOL. The title of the album reflects the songs as well as the changes in the band, individually spoken as well as musically.
First MIDNATTSOL was hitting the spotlight fast. Just a few months after the formation in 2002, the band recorded their demo. With songs hitting right in the heart of the listener, the band quickly gathered fans via internet as well as articles in magazines. Soon a deal with Napalm Records followed. The debut album WHERE TWILIGHT DWELLS was released 2005 and enchanted legions of fans with atmospheric and powerful music, inspired by the mystic Nordic nature.
The following months consisted of promoting the debut at festivals like Summer Breeze, Wave Gothic Treffen, Mera Luna and a tour with IN EXTREMO. In 2008 the sextet`s second album NORDLYS was released and won lots of new Metal -, Goth-, and Folk music fans with its great variety. But the positive flow was interrupted by the leaving of Christian Hector after the release. It took more than a year to find the perfect replacement: the guitarist Alex Kautz joined the band officially at the Metal Female Voices Fest 2009.
The unforgettable concert was exceeded when the band won the 'Best Hope' Award. This evening was a new beginning. And everyone getting the Limited Edition of THE METAMORPHOSIS MELODY will be able to relive these moments – a DVD of this concert will be in the package as well as an extra song with Daniel Droste (singer of AHAB) doing the vocals.
THE METAMORPHOSIS MELODY was recorded and produced by THE VISION BLEAK mastermind Markus Stock at Studio E. It is a combination of the folk tones and magical atmosphere of WHERE TWILIGHT DWELLS, the complexity of NORDLYS and powerful traditional Heavy Metal elements. The songs are more mature in their compositions and the interactions of the instruments, not a single tone has an existence of coincidence.
Also the unique voice of Carmen has developed immensely and invites you to a world filled with pure emotions through epic lyrics sung both in English and Norwegian. MIDNATTSOL has earlier been compared with bands like BATHORY, NIGHTWISH, AMORPHIS or even IRON MAIDEN and won fans from a wide specter within the metal genre.
With THE METAMORPHOSIS MELODY the sextet proves that they have gone through a metamorphosis themselves ready to gain even more fans with new outstanding songs
