The melodic death metal band NIGHT IN GALES looks back at turbulent times. Their first sign of life, 1995’s EP 'Sylphlike', was already one of the most successful metal-demos of all time. Therefore, label-powerhouse Nuclear Blast came into the picture, with whom the quintet signed a deal for a couple of albums. They also toured alongside In Flames, Hypocrisy, Children Of Bodom, Death, Dismember and many others and they played numerous festivals like Rockharz, the Wacken Open Air or the Summer Breeze. After some calmer years, the band returned with 2011’s brilliant album 'Five Scars'. But only one year later, long term vocalist Bjoern Gooßes left the band to concentrate completely on his band The Very End.
Last year, the band announced the addition of original vocalist Christian Mueller who also sang on their initial EP 'Sylphlike'. He finalized the new album, which marks a distinct step back to the band’s roots. Thus, the songs offer furious melodic twin guitar riffing, driven by technical death metal drumming, topped by a manic frustrated voice that sounds like someone is crucified upside down.
We feel honored to announce that the story of Night In Gales is about to be continued with Apostasy Records. Fans of the early material can expect a proper rejuvenation of the band. Welcome to the family!
The band comments: 'We are happy to confirm that NIGHT IN GALES have inked a new worldwide recorddeal with Germany´s finest in Melodic Death Metal: APOSTASY RECORDS! BIOGRAPHY
After NIGHT IN GALES’ debut EP “Sylphlike” had hit the scene like a bomb in 1995 (up till now this release remains with 7000 copies one of the best selling demos ever!), the first album “Towards The Twilight” was released in 1997 under the wings of Nuclear Blast Records and the band toured with bands such as of In Flames, Hypocrisy, Children Of Bodom, Sinister and Death, before releasing their second album “Thunderbeast”. Further touring with acts like Dismember or again Children Of Bodom followed, as well as appearances at festivals like Wacken Open Air or Summer Breeze Open Air.
While the releases this far presented the band with a clearly melo-death rocking groove, their third album “Nailwork“ in 2000 showcased a rather morbid and more progressive side to things and Night In Gales not only toured Europe with Old Man´s Child and Krisiun but also visited Japan together with Defleshed and long time underground mates in Dew-Scented.
The band’s upcoming “Necrodynamic“ release in 2001 saw them switching to Massacre Records and also to a more varied and melodic stylistic approach, which after some line up changes also lead to the band taking a break in order to musically re-orientate. In doing so, there was music released by the members of NIGHT IN GALES during the zero years in / with acts like Bloodred Bacteria, Deadsoil, The Very End, Grind Inc., White Eyes or In Blackest Velvet, yet nothing was to be heard by Night In Gales apart from the self-released “Ten Years Of Tragedy“ EP 2005 (a free download offering, celebrating the group’s tenth birthday!). Meanwhile, former drummer Christian Bass had left Night In Gales to focus on metalcore hopefuls Deadsoil. He later hit the skins for Deadlock, played on the debut album for Der Weg einer Freiheit and joined Germany´s finest in vegan metalcore, Heaven Shall Burn, as a full time member later.
All of a sudden and unexpectedly, the time-out after “Necrodynamic“ had lasted for almost a decade, but ever since a “comeback” show in 2009 at a local festival and the full re-release of the band’s NB-catalogue by Metal Mind Productions, NIGHT IN GALES 2011 have returned to work on a brandnew album, showcasing a matured and re-defined band, fresh and quality-driven as ever before. The new and fifth album “Five Scars” successfully combined all of the band’s past trademarks within the typically Swedish melodic death metal sound structure, without rejecting new influences and thus making it both the most melodically accessible as well as also the most aggressive effort in the band’s history so far, smoothly rounded off with a killer soundmix courtesy of scene icon Dan Swanö (Edge Of Sanity, Bloodbath, etc.). „Five Scars“ reched soudcheck position #4 in German Metal Hammer Magazine and the band presented the new album a.o. at Summer Breeze and Roch Harz, Rage Against Racism and Metal Splash Open Air in 2012.
Singer Björn Gooßes left the band after their Romania mini-tour in december 2012 to focus completly on his new band The Very End. Not knowing who will replace his position in the near future at this time, the band started working immedialty on new more heavy material for album number six. Since Jens was signing to Massace Records with his new classic Heavy Metal outfit Gloryful in 2013 it took some more years to finish the songwriting for the new album.
In 2016, the band officially declared the return of former singer Christian Müller (1995 – 1996) and to complete the recordings for the new album until summer 2017. The new album shows Night In Gales returning to their early trademarks. The album was mixed and mastered by living Death Metal legend Dan Swanö. The cover artwork and full booklet illustration was done by romanian artist Costin Chioreanu. Stay tuned for more details!
