Forming in 2003, Swiss death dealers Nihilo have been a potent and powerful presence on the extreme music stage since the release of their debut EP, Nyktophobia, in 2008. Following that fierce and feral beginning Nihilo have gone on to release two further EPs, four full length albums - including the critically acclaimed Dum Spiro Spero, described by The Metal Crypt as “dark, vicious, heavy and brutal” - and last year the incendiary live set Chaos Unleashed. Now, still spearheaded by the ever-constant presence of vocalist Ragulan Vivekananthan, Nihilo are set to launch their next offensive. Sounding bleaker, harder and more devastating than ever before and bound in blood to new label Xtreem Music, Nihilo are about to unveil the macabre majesty of Abyss!
Abyss hits hard and convinces utterly, right from the first frantic riffs of opening track 'Primal Instinct'. Gathering power like an oncoming storm, black clouds cut open by dazzling lightning strikes of lead work and driven across the sky by a cataclysmic rhythm section, this is a daunting welcome to Nihilo's latest profane feast of blood. And there is no respite from the extreme aggression and consuming shadows as Abyss thunders on… Ragulan's imperious voice leads the charge like an elemental demigod, into the foreboding dance of death that is 'Impending Doom', radiating a sense of the ancient, the primeval, an aura of forgotten horrors and violent ritual. 'Dishonoured Death', featuring Shyai of Impiety is a crawling alien horror, emptying into a pit of destructive blackened fervour, while 'Veil Of Nothing' is the sound of a mind unravelling, the melodic solo spinning out into the darkness, the song ending in haunting, hollowing emptiness that leads straight into the blood-boiling savagery of 'Suffocating Silence'. Then, just when you think you have become accustomed to the sheer heaviness of Abyss, Nihilo unleash 'Roots In Bone', an invocation of intensity to shatter spines. Everything finally reaches its ending in the sinister 'Enter The Abyss', a howling black hole of terror and a crushing conclusion to an intimidating album of unearthly magnificence!

Produced and mixed by Romano Galli and Simon Egli at HardBeat Studio (Defaced, Omnicide, Sulphur Sun etc) and mastered by Christophe Brandes at Iguana Studios, Abyss sounds utterly formidable. Bound in the disconcerting and unsettling artwork of Rodrigo Pereira Salvatierra (Lurker Of Chalice, Leviathan, Perversor etc) its darkness is complete and absolute. Xtreem Music will open the gates to the Abyss on November 3rd - lower your gaze in fear and submission before the return of Nihilo!

BIOGRAPHY/LOGO

Nihilo is a Swiss death metal band formed in Huttwil, Bern, in 2003, later relocating its base to Bern. Since its inception, the group has remained firmly rooted in traditional death metal while gradually incorporating elements of crust, grindcore, hardcore and, on later material, touches of black metal. The band's lyrical themes revolve primarily around death, hatred and war.
The first official release from Nihilo was the Nyktophobia EP in 2008. The six-track recording introduced the band's aggressive and uncompromising approach to death metal and was followed two years later by their debut full-length album, Concordia Perpetua, released independently in 2010.
In 2012, Nihilo issued two further EPs, Antichrist and The Flaming Bed in Benum. These releases helped bridge the gap between the band's early material and the heavier and more developed sound that would characterize their subsequent albums. A split release titled Six Methods to Kill followed in 2013, alongside the single Infected.
Nihilo's second full-length, Dum Spiro Spero, arrived in 2014. The album displayed a particularly heavy form of old-school death metal, combining fast and aggressive passages with slower, crushing sections and drawing inspiration from both American death metal and European acts such as Asphyx and Bolt Thrower.
Four years later, Nihilo returned with their third album, Doom. Released in 2018, the record continued the band's straightforward and punishing death metal approach while further emphasizing the darker and heavier side of their sound. The album also featured a guest vocal appearance by former Nile guitarist/vocalist Dallas Toler-Wade on the track “Antichrist.”
Their fourth studio album, Resolution, was released through Iron, Blood and Death Corporation in February 2022. By this point, Nihilo had broadened their sound considerably, incorporating black metal and hardcore influences alongside their established old-school death metal foundation. The album featured eleven tracks and included a guest appearance by Chris Monroy on the title track.
In 2024, the band released the compilation Made of Lies, collecting material from their earlier EPs along with the previously unreleased title track. This was followed in 2025 by Chaos Unleashed, Nihilo's first full-length live album, containing eleven songs spanning different periods of the band's career.
More than two decades after their formation, Nihilo remain active and continue to represent the underground Swiss death metal scene. Vocalist Ragulan Vivekananthan, who has fronted the group since its formation in 2003, remains at the core of the band. Nihilo are currently associated with Xtreem Music.
